Since we're on the subject of marketing lets talk about brand loyalty. For people who believe captain marvel is a successes due to the movies own merits, its not. Captain Marvel only received as much money as it did due to the staple of Marvel, up to this point giving us block buster after block buster success. The movie before her was one with Thanos who stole the show.
I see this a lot with change in management. people believe that just because something did good it means they did well completely off their own merit without understanding brand loyalty and respecting/disrespecting your customer. Pretty much all the past marvel movies that are fresh on peoples minds did well, therefore, theirs no reason not to trust that Captain Marvel will be good and will lead into endgame.
Fans where seriously divided when Last jedi came out, and due to bad PR solo took a heavy hit. because the brand was taking a piss. No one wanted to believe that people where upset until that point. Brand loyalty is a very important thing to establish and a very easy thing to destoy by being incompetent. Captian Marvel did well because of its Brand.
And other indie movies that are good and talk about serious or interesting issues like Moonlight or Tangerine don't get that lovely little boost of people already being in love with it because of any brand. Facial tissues are called kleenex not because thats what they are, but because thats simply how the average consumer knows them.
So yes, its important to reach out and look for something that isnt a corporation. Its important to hold movies and media made by these corporations to higher standards. Else you'll risk the chance of getting nothing but solos and captian marvels forever. Shallow blockbusters that look pretty and say as little as possible, as movies like Moonlight and Crazy rich asians get sweeped under the rug.
