What a nice world we'd live in if everyone just did what they should do. ^^ I agree with your general sentiment: we should work harder to promote indie works that are good instead of just complaining about mainstream works that are bad.
The thing is, though, that ALONE will not make the problem go away. It's more complicated than that. Mainly because of the reach that mainstream works have; they're called mainstream for a reason. With the money they have at their disposal, they can make sure the whole world knows about what they're doing, even those who can't afford to just ask around at libraries or just scour the internet for media that suits their tastes (believe it or not, such people do still exist).
Meanwhile, I, an indie creator, can blog about anything I want, and only the roughly 10% of my audience that even reads what I write will know about it. That exposure difference matters, and it's why we should continue to put pressure on the mainstream no matter what.
