Tapastic is a beautiful wonderful place filled with the best and kindest group of staff and members and I will do my part to preserve this very delicate ecosystem,
by keeping an eye out for and reporting on these BABEHS of BABIJI's! smile_cat

So,

so far the suggestions for preventing spam bots – as verifying emails are easy for them;

Google's reCAPTCHA - probably the most user friendly, as users won't need to leave the page - ReCAPTCHA3
IP Filtering - May cause issues with users using proxies (CPY's suggestion
Classic captcha - i.e. solving math / typing out a word - Securimage PHP Captcha
FunCaptcha - basically a puzzle captcha - FunCaptcha1

I also found an interesting answer for someone trying to make a anti-bot from Javascript. > Here1

The answer delves into his favourite type of anti-bot mechanism, a hidden check box. A checkbox for i.e. "I agree to Terms and Conditions" is hidden to the user, but a bot would detect this and automatically check it, thus revealing itself that it's a bot.

If anyone has anymore, feel free to reply to this post to add more!

Oh yeah and one more thing:

Should we have a "spam" mode, so when Tap is under attack, a report button can be made avaliable on comments, series and users?

I know the series already have a report button, but I think there should be one for users and comments in case of emergencies.

This way when the devs see that Tapastic is under attack, they enable "spam" mode and users can help the devs by reporting the users and comments too.

I think spam mode needs a new name if this was implemented.

Not necessarily in case of emergency, even if the community is really nice, there might be cases when you need to report someone... Just reporting them with the possibility to add a little comment would be easier than clogging Michael's wall with report messages...

But yeah, I wish there was more we could do to help you... Thanks for working so hard to keep everything clean and nice !

Haha, honestly? Everyone is doing a really great job at helping me out already.

One of the problems that I have is that I (unfortunately) need to sleep and it seems like they enjoy posting during those hours. So when I wake up I have an inbox with report notifications (don't worry, they stack or my inbox isn't too cluttered!). But I basically, go through those and delete those series first thing in the morning!

This has made my life a whole lot easier smile

Thanks!

Thing is, there have been many users that have gibberish names with numbers that always start with the letter 'u', and I've seen them around for nearly a year. I remember seeing one of these users asking the staff why their username turned out like that (after signing up with their Facebook account, I assume. It could be that their original display name in Facebook was typed in with characters/letters that cannot be used for their Tapastic username. )

Yeah I've noticed a huge influx of spam here too- so annoying when this happens but glad you don't mind us using the report button "liberally" haha. I'd started to report a bunch the other day and then I was like 0_____0 "Can I be reported for reporting too much??" open_mouth Then I got scared. stuck_out_tongue

Hi everyone!

Just a quick update.

So, we've managed to slow them down considerably. We've built a more robust way of removing them from the system and we've seen a decline in their activity on the site. We really appreciate the community stepping up and lending a helping hand.

This has been a very stressful period of time for the team - we're very, very hard at work trying to launch our apps and didn't really have the necessary resources to fight off the spam. We are incredibly grateful for all the community members that reported these spammers to us.

Thank you smile

Speaking of the devil... (ban devil at last smile )
do you received my humble petition about my webcomic?
I think maybe you have a lot of work with this to read them.

Worse than Baba ji? Ludicrous!

Grey's anatomy is about Doctors... Baba ji was a love doctor -- I found the link guys!

Please report all harassment happening on the site to @michaelson by emailing him at michaelson@tapasmedia.co

It's important to report these terrible acts and make sure they get infront of the right person who can act on this quickly. Posting about it in the forums isn't a surely method to make sure it gets dealt with immediately. Emailing a Tapastic staffer is the best method to handle this.
