References! Where do you get yours?

For objects and settings I use google, but for posed I use a mirror! I don't really like looking at photo reference for poses because I feel like I get too hung up on specifics, but since I can't draw WHILE doing the pose I don't have that problem with mirrors.

I use the internet! (and pinterest kkk)... I mostly search for photos (but i usually have a hard time finding exactly what I'm looking for) So.. SOMETIMES, I take a picture of myself (cause no nice friends to help me by posing T_T)

I google search, then go to "search tools", "usage rights" and use "labelled noncommercial reuse. Just in case.

Also, when I try to animate, I usually end up trying to run in slow motion in front of a mirror.

I use google. You can't use pinterest without an account and i'm not in any mood to make one. I sometimes use 3D for poses but i'm far too lazy unless i'm really struggling.

To be honest, I usually don't look up poses or angels and try to figure those out on my own.

Mostly what I look up is just items or objects when I can't find them around the house to make sure I'm drawing them right, like 'beer bottle' or 'scissors'. Or if working with an animal (or a part from that animal) just look that up to make sure I got the shape/structure and markings right.

I'll also use to it double check muscle placements if I'm unsure of how something is turning out.

I do a lot of research for my comic since its historical based, so I've borrowed some books from the library over the summer to get a better idea! Sometimes more helpful than just Google Image search, since the first few results aren't always accurate. And it depends, some sources are better than others–also in a pinch I look at movies that are similar to the mood I'm looking for for reference, the only trick is to not copy directly and to only use it as a general reference of course. X0

senshistock on deviantart is great for poses, i use that a lot, and designdoll (a program) when i cant be arsed to trawl through tonnes of poses for something vaguely right

as for general references, i really tend to just.. google stuff. and get a chance to go out and practice drawing them; a lot of my comic is set in natural scenery, so I took a lot of photos and drawings on a trip to the Hebrides that I use as reference.

i also have a tag on my tumblr for stuff that i could find useful for drawing, influencing aesthetic, or background / setting ideas.

I have huge mirrors in my room so I use those, I pose myself in front and hold the pose until I memorize it and then proceed, haha!

Yeah, Pinterest has definitely become my favorite place to find references, even more than Google and Deviantart.
I browse there mindlessly sometimes, not even just for references but just because there's a lot of cool art and pics there and it seems a bit better at filtering out stupid crap (like porn) that I don't want to see. XD I'm a sucker for pictures of abandoned places and photos of Scotland and Ireland....just....DAMN.

Anywhere, but If I don't already have a reference or can't find one in 5-10 minutes I don't use one. If it is a pose and I can't find one, I'll just pose in front of the mirror. I don't like getting hung up on finding references. Most of the time someone will point out my mistakes and I'll just fix it in the future.

• Environments: Google Maps/ Streetview (Great for modern settings) Sketchup is ok but looking up actual buildings helps to keep the architecture consistent as well as remembering to draw little details in streets like signs, street lights, etc. Also you can make your setting almost anywhere in the world and draw the setting accurately and consistently.
• Poses: Design Doll (A free 3d poseable doll program. If you haven't tried it PLEASE DO)
• Objects and props: Sketchfab (For 3d modelers to upload their stuff but like design doll you can rotate around the object drawing it from any angle you need. I most recently used this to draw a car flying into the air while looking up at it)
• Complex poses or actions : GettyImages (Any stock image sites, so when I want to draw the characters, eating, or sitting I use this instead of design doll because then I can get a natural reference) Google image search is awful, use a stock image website instead.

I use a lot of references.. When I look back at the times when I was too lazy to take 2 seconds to look up a reference even for simple things like let's say a can of soda. I would want to smack past me in the face.

GettyImages seems cool.

DesignDoll seems to only be for Windows, I have a Mac. I can get some Windows programs to work through Wine but It's been being faulty recently and 3D programs are very hit or miss.

I typically use Google for partial image reference. When I am lucky, I have my own pics I took for reference. Other than that, I don't use much else besides my imagination. Not too exciting I know..but hey it gets the job done.

I normally draw pose based my imagination , if I'm stuck I will look out at google or look at my own fingers (since i'm not really good at drawing fingers). For backgrounds and weapons I normally go to google to find pictures and redraw them .

I just use pinterest usually, it's not perfect but I'm not the best at anatomy so it's a start, I mainly use it for things like clothing and backgrounds. There's also pixelovely that's a figure drawing site and I'll just pull images from there and save them and/or pin them.
This usually works for me i guess
