@PrinceLatte nice! Never knew there was a term for it, I use it often JRPG games like final fantasy may have inspired it for me with the 'X has joined your party'. Haven't watched Jojo and Demon Slayer yet but want to watch them sometime, One Piece is awesome!
In I'm ̶n̶o̶t̶ A Sick Boy, Road trip with the boys plays a major role. There is the usual like you mentioned, meeting allies and foes who display a variety of powers but there is a literal road trip aspect too.
The story follows two brothers Owen 12, and Evan 21 who are stranded in the wake of a terrible outbreak.
They journey to out of town with hopes to reunite with their parents, but more they learn about their bizarre condition it seems unlikely (see Sick Boy* below)
Owen is a sheltered kid while Evan has been around. Owen experiences his brother outside the family setting which is also a drastic change for him. Always saw the journey as Evan's wild ride, he has a tendency to chase after danger dragging poor Owen along. Owen is forced to quickly adapt and matures overtime.
A major ally is Xun, a fellow Sick Boy* and former assassin. He takes the brothers road tripp-ing across the country to slay hordes of infected, train and investigate the outbreak. On the trip they meet other Sick Boys* who are a mixture of friend and foe.

*Sick Boys are a few people who became asymptomatic carriers of a virus, following the broadcast of an eerie hum one night. Humans who make physical contact with a Sick Boy will instantly mutate into zombie-like monsters & this led to a terrible outbreak. On the plus side, Sick Boys also have superhuman skills based on states of matter (liquid, solid, gas etc). Sick Boys are a mixed bag: some make it a mission to slay the hordes of infected (defend human survivors) while others seek to make a grizzly game out of the chaos. Owen (gas), Evan (solid) and Xun (liquid).
