I am not a fan of childhood friends but, starting the story at childhood and their love spanning decades is a better take on the rather lackluster childhood friend troupe. They have history with one another and you can see them grow as characters as they grew up.

Trust is very important especially in a romantic relationship. The balance of power I believe helps establish that their relationship is equal as you stated. It could start out uneven at first but Character A in should balance things out by supporting Character B. Besides it seems rather unfair if one of them is carrying the relationship.

This passive form of love it done correctly can make the couple in question very likeable despite not openly showing their romantic feelings.

I believe staying true to a character's personality while they are in a relationship is important. For example, you have a more submissive character who always gives their person of affection the benefit of the doubt. If the person of affection notices this trend they will get upset and it will force the submissive character to view themselves with more value if they want to stay with the one they love.

I believe having characters who balance each other out makes a romantic couple really click. The couple can grow together and learn to understand themselves once they are together.

The Main storyline for my epic, Kolodruidtale, has several romance subthreads within it. Each of these characters will have their own trouble to overcome in pursuing the relationship, however. Things are going to get messy.

The thing is, the love stories follow an extremely long arc. Longer that most of the scope for the webcomic, Kolodruidtale Epilogues, until at least the very end, perhaps.

I'm not a fan of teenage romance either, but yeah, the two of them growing up and going their separate ways to develop their own stories then coming back together as adults made the whole thing so much more endearing. I don't really write romance and didn't expect to for that story either, but it was a great experiment.

Oh yes, at the beginning, it's mostly an issue of them not being fully honest with each other. But they will overcome that.

I don't mind teenage romance as long as there is a good story to accompany it. I don't what it shoved down my throat that these two should be a couple.

With my romance comic, both start off as childhood friends, training alongside one another in taekwondo, where the girl has always loved the boy, waiting on him to make the first move, but then the boy leaves suddenly, travels overseas for personal reasons and finds someone else. The girl eventually becomes a fashion model, while the boy makes a name for himself in the world of martial arts. The boy comes back, out of nowhere, as he believes the girl has intentionally reprised her role as a taekwondo practitioner, but her greedy new boss has decided to combine her talent in martial arts with her modeling career and now is stuck with something she had no intention of participating in ever again: tournaments. The girl and boy are strong-willed and successful in their endeavors, but when it comes to love, neither still have much experience.

There's a LOT for the girl to consider, but for the boy (now a man) it is through taekwondo, in his support of her in this martial art, that he starts to come to terms with his true feelings for the girl.

A story I have been writing follows a similar premise where the guy leaves just when the girl starts to develop feelings for him. This is the best use of the childhood friend troupe because they are separated for awhile and they move on with their lives and maybe find a new lover. The girl from the story I mentioned is won over by a spunky girl who helped her out with a bully.

Well, my comic Confessions is a romance. The entire story is how they come together. Thomas and Rick are contrasting for sure when it comes to their personalities and how they deal with things. Over all Thomas and Rick balance one another but at the same time they both have their down falls that hinder the relationship and one another. Right now, even though you know Rick likes thomas, the reader doesn't know what Thomas feels about Rick or even if or why he would be on his mind. Thomas is general is a pretty emotionally shut off character, where Rick let's his emotions get away from him a bit. So, that's actually pretty fun to write. Though when they interact I like to write most of it from Rick's POV bc Rick is kinda the main character, plus it leaves the readers not really sure what Thomas feels about Rick, if anything.

The romance I am working working on is about two girls falling love. It starts off as a friendship and they get closer of the over course of the story. Since it's a romance I have to throw some ship teases here and there .This story is still in development though.

Oh cool! Yeah, I've always like the friendship first and then there is tension until they are like I LOVE YOU...etc...or how ever it comes out, even if it's subtle. Kinda like how they did in FMA: Brotherhood between ed and winery. Thomas and Rick are not friends whatsoever in the beginning. They use to get along and then there is an odd fallout, which I will get to explaining at some point in the story. Even though Rick likes Thomas and have feelings, just bc of his personality he is super stand off-ish. I find it super fun to have them bickering and basically not getting along at first. I get to be inventive about what events bring them together and slowly building a relationship. So much fun!

Those are best types of relationships where it evolves as the story goes along. I don't like it when they start off as lovers then there is nothing to build on making the relationship very boring.

In some of my stories (comic or written), I have had pre-determined relationships from the beginning (See Hero's Dilemma). But in Outcast Kingdom, I set out without any pre-conceived pairings decided. A few possibilities have crossed my mind, but I don't know which if any will actually happen.

I usually have the characters paired up before the story starts as well, how their relationship grows depends on the story's genre and the circumstances the characters find themselves in.
