Hello everyone,
For those who don't know, I run the webcomic Etherwood, which you can find here:
If I were to assign a genre to Etherwood without any restrictions, I'd call it an Adventure Romance Fantasy. That is, the immediate story moment to moment is usually fantasy-adventure, and the overall plot thread is the relationship between Veronica and Aramis (Romance Fantasy). Tapas has "Action Fantasy" and "Romance Fantasy" - I ended up choosing romance fantasy over fantasy because my stetting is much more modern than the medieval/steampunk settings that fantasy usually implies, and it doesn't have a ton of fighting - it's no battle shonen.
However, 18 months in, my comic has performed well, and sometimes hits the top community comic in my genre - but to my knowledge, I've never been featured in staff picks for community romance fantasy. Comparison with other comics under that heading that are at my level - well, they're a lot more romantically forward than Etherwood is. Not to spoil anything, but it will probably be some time before my leads start officially dating.
Should I change my main genre? Is there another heading that you think would give readers a better expectation about what kind of comic I'm running?
Thanks for your time.
