It's part of getting your webcomics known. Doesn't mean they're correct. Just block em. I know a youtuber who said that when she gets mean comments on her webcomics, she just takes it as "reaching an audience your work clearly isn't meant for. That must mean youre getting more popular."

I say block them. No need to put your energy into responding to comments like that, because as someone who used to participate in pointless flame wars that go on for hours, you'll be wasting your time and no one is going to win.

Block and ignore these idiots. They could be trolls who enjoy shitting on other peoples work in order to get a reaction from the artist, or their fanbase. And your work looks great so that person is clearly talking out of their ass. You just keep rockin' and leave that brat to stew in their own hate.

It could also be jealousy and they're trying to tear you down to make their fav look better. I've noticed this on Webtoon. When a romance or other popular genre comic is launched they're sometimes voted to the ground. New works with gorgeus art and a cute meet cute are rated like 5 or 6; far far below the rating they deserve. It's kind of sad how poisonous some fans can be.

I agree with block and delete. No one deserves to have mean comments just floating there under their work that’ll get them feeling icky every time. Troll comments should just be trashed for the benefit of all.

Everyone else already said it, but yeah. Block the heck out of them and delete the comments. At least that's what I did when I had similar experience on some other site.

Honestly people who waste their time hating on content they could easily just ignore don't deserve our time getting wasted on them.

I'm still upset that someone had the audacity to call one of my characters a "N" word on webtoon and there was absolutely nothing i could do about it. i even blocked them and webtoon did absolutely nothing about it. It still pains me till this day but since i've had so many other updates i don't know where that comment is so i'm glad about that.

I would be absolutely livid at the commenter and I would be super disappointed in webtoon. That is hateful speech and it's just distressing that it wasn't taken seriously.

I'm glad you blocked and ignore them. I understand that comments like that are unsettling, even if in the end they don't mean anything. The point of such harsh words is to get under your skin. Which really only shows them to be weak. Move forward and pay the haters no mind!

Dude you have the right to be mad, that person is a huge grade A jerk. Honestly, I've blocked for waaay less. I think people out there are just looking to get a rise out of negativity because it's so much easier to get attention for being an ass than it is to get attention for positivity. Kind of like a kid in the corner of class who constantly fights and acts out out so the teacher gives him 100% of their time.

And TBH before I posted on Tapas and Webtoon I was told by many artists that the comments sections of both these sites are really, really terrible. It kept me from posting here for a very long time, and when I did it was with the comments section completely closed.

I sort of hate webtoons for this reason. The comments seem to come from a bunch of kids and trolls. They really should have a delete option in the comment section for their creators.

Exactly they should because even when i came back to the comment, there was no block and what i did was report the comment but they did nothing about it because i went back a couple of days later and the post was still there. eventually it got buried but that really hurted my feelings.

you did the right think by posting. you don't want to let people discourage you from being creative and sharing your work so i'm glad you posted regardless.

i'm not too much of a sensitive person but i do have limitations. i just feel like there is so much one can take. mostly when i get very upset it usually last a couple of minutes then go away. thats why after i replied to their stupid comment i was like, "why did i even bother". well they wont be having access to my comic unless they were to randomly create a new account to continue trolling which i'm sure they wont LMAO

my one friend is currently dealing with a person who turned their entire Tapas account into a hate shrine to them and then spams them with "Fuck you you're a bully" on their wall, all the situation was, the person was trying to advertise their story on friend's wall, and friend told them like... "don't do that". person hate spammed but now despite blocking them, they are still telling ppl that friend bullied them into deleting their story and giving up on their dreams

Your friend could always write a wall post maturely clarifying their side of the story and then let people they’re no longer going to give attention to the spamming and won’t address it further. It’s gonna have to die down eventually, but at least they’d have their say.

Not disagreeing with the long term block and delete approach to confrontations that drag on and sap at your energy and goals...

But...

I do like seeing creators that show some initial gumption in responding to rude comments. It seems a little apathetic to let them just sit there unaddressed. The response doesn't necessarily need to be overtly confrontational but I dig creators who interact with readers at all levels...including the messy ones.

Honest critiques with useful suggestions are gold! I love them. But this? Absolutely nothing of value. Pure bashing. A snappy comeback may be tempting, and some of your fans may enjoy seeing it, too. However, you apparently don't have time to dwell on this garbage. I know I don't. So block and delete as needed.

Yeah, as an example...on a different app, our groups comic got a snarky comment about the length of one of the episodes. Being a anthology collection of varied short stories, this was a comment more about what they wanted/demanded us to be instead of evaluating us on what we are.

In a very non-confrontation manner, the writer of that episode addressed the comment by explaining his personal philosophy of every story having it's own space that it lives in..some smaller, some larger. Then he thanked them for reading and casually warned them they were bound for further frustration if they expected us to fit solely in the boxes the commentor wanted. It was perfectly balanced.
