Sci-Fi Story Progression, tips?

Im working on a story where the main character isnt the main hero, in fact, he doesnt see fit for things to be good again, he seeks to be innovative to be in a crazy world.

Does this sound interesting? I think I got it handled for character progression, still unsure. Im not much for a romantic so is romance a must or small thing to see in a severe action packed scifi/fantasy?

Can you share a bit more about the story and the world? How is it crazy exactly? Is his whole purpose in it just to invent and create?

I don't think you have to have romance in a story to make it interesting to read. If you still feel like you should have romance in there even though you're not very interested in it, you can have the romance bit happen with someone else than the main hero.

The story resolves about a fictional universe where humans were born on a earth style planet, but then a Celestial Death Storm came, destroyed their world. With time left, they escaped and found a new world. 40 times bigger than their previous home. But this world was an extremely hazardous place to live, more dangers, bigger landscapes. 300 years later they only discovered 40% of the surface. Built 3 main cities within a 2000 mile radius. With the help of the military, whats left? Oh yeah, the main character joining the Brigade. A group of well trained mercs with one objective, to explore the outside world and discover hidden secrets. Well....thats not going to be the big journey, not when political problems about corrupted branches isnt just rumors, could bring danger to all. For humans, and what lurks in the shadows.

Ah see, now that sounds interesting! So how does the main character fit into all this, what does he do/will do?

Also, no need for a romance, the worst thing you can do is add one in and force it.

i dont want to spoil much, but the main character joins the brigade, hiding his past, all he wants is a simple life, yet, things never do. He becomes on the sideline. But later in the comic he gets really involved into issues that go way past critical issues. Then all hell breaks loose.

subjugation becomes a key issue, another problem is the action, i want it to be clean cut, not a bunch of line movements behind punches

If you have to ask, "Should I include this in a story?" The most likely answer is no.

What fits in a story, is what heppens during the writing process.

Reading through the comments here @RyderSechrest I can tell you know a LOT about your world, but you don't know much about your character as a person and where the story progresses. If you're looking for some help on this topic, try to figure out a few core things about your main character. Is he motivated by Fear or by Ambition? What is your character's WANT, NEED, and SECRET? From there figure out what happens if the want, need, or secret is exposed, comes to pass, or doesn't happen at all.
