Self editing thread (where we come to complain about the hardships of editing.)

I've improved the story of my Webtoon by first writing it as a novel, then storyboarding an entire arcs worth of chapters, the rewriting each chapter multiple especially as I'm getting ready to release them. My story is about a world where your ethnicity dictates the superpower you are born with.

I paid a freelance editor about $125 for 31,000 words. I used Fiverr and she has good ratings.

Line editing is quick and satisfying.
It's when you have to do serious rewrites when it's daunting.

For example, I've been dreading having to rewrite chapter 13, but I realized that it's the perfect spot for the main conflict to explode and trigger All Is Lost beat (from Save the Cat method).

After putting it off, I finally rewrote it. It turned into THREE chapters, which is fine, I needed more wordcount, but now all of the chapters after it need to be rewritten as well.

Editing is great, but it just takes so long!!!

I have a similar process. Grammarly for spelling and obvious mistakes, Hemingway app to pick up if I have too many adverbs or weak words, and I listen to it via tts reader to analyze sentence flow, repetition, etc.

It's also quite amazing how many mistakes you notice when you read the text back in a different font. It's like magic.

For more serious projects, I participate in critique groups. It's been beyond helpful.

I'm not ready to release an ebook, but I imagine that I'd have to hire an editor to catch everything else.

If I could just focus on writing and let someone else edit, I could write A TON, but I'm not ready for that type of investment.

I've learned a lot from you guys, especially with the Prowriteraid and the text to speech apps, my editing speed has gone way up.

my process was just reread my chapter, then rewrite that I didn't like and fixed errors and such then repeat.
but with the help of these apps, I still do this but now, I spot a lot more errors and much faster cuz they underline them for me and explain what the errors are.

hearing my book through text to speech I fell in love with it, it sounded so awesome and I'm not sure if it's cuz I wrote it but I could see the scenes and characters in my mind.

Anyway, to make a lengthy story short, thank you guys for sharing your tips and suggestions. It's really helped me out and I hope it's helped out a few others that had limited information like me as well.
