Chiv would watch hardcore parkour videos (and certainly not of the Minecraft variety) like this:

Eleanor would be melting in envy (as we all would) watching this:

Lyn would watch strange meme videos like as this:

Jregon would watch back-flip-inducing fight videos like this:

And Esmeralda would watch the chillest good vibe inducing foraging videos:

Funny how all of my characters watch exactly my favorite videos on Youtube. 🤣 It's almost like I'm the one who created them! How strange!

lol, most of my OCs interests are bits and pieces of my own actually. I think it helps to create realism in your writing. You start writing a character, and adding your own interests helps you to write hobbies you could understand people being interested in, then you add more details, often bits and pieces from people you know or have seen in videos, to round them out.

And I love parkour too, so i'm with you

I definitely think that's how it is for a lot of writers! It's difficult to write characters who have interests different from your own, but even harder to write about them passionately or in a very meaningful way. Obviously it can be done, but it takes a lot more research and time.

definitely. At least small portions of my cast usually end up being inspired me, but maybe their interests would stray further if I didn't have so many. I find it hard to think of an interest a character has that I could be completely removed from. Given that my leads in "Damsel in the Red Dress" are into:

  1. art
  2. poetry
  3. action movies
  4. theater
  5. fashion
  6. fitness
  7. hiking
  8. bussiness

et cetera, and i'm into all of those. Don't even get me started on the interests of the "Hushabye Prince" characters

the only interest any of them have that isn't one of mine in Damsel is probably driving. I'd love to learn to drive, but I doubt it would become a hobby for me. Then again Idk, i'd love to go on road trips

I’m definitely relating to Esmeralda’s choice in videos, I love watching those countryside living in rural China videos they are so calm :sparkles::relieved: but also THAT Elmo …. He has me dying thank you sharing.

:hibiscus:YES those videos are like peak aesthetic and so calming!! :cherry_blossom:I showed one of those videos to my mom and she said "she's like the Martha Stewart of China, huh?" :dancer:

AND I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKED THE ELMO, LOL I have that song on some of my music playlists, and whenever I hear it come on I have to start doing the Elmo dance 🤣🤣🤣

For Frostpeak West

I feel like the kids would watch the stuff most kids watch. Video game let's plays, YouTube Poops, prank videos, etc.

Zeta: Being a history teachers, probably a lot of history documentaries. Also videos talking about gender identity.

Hushabye Prince

Jimin sometimes watches playthroughs of fantasy adventure games, the story kind, like "Choices: Stories You Play" (sfw ones only) she likes pirate-adventure type content. She would also watch lots of cooking videos for pretty complicated desserts she'll probably never actually take the time to make. She DOES cook and bake pretty well tho, so maybe someday.

Andrew

Carpentry and gardening videos. He's kind of a savant, so he could just watch a video of the process without even any narration and figure out how to build the table, book-shelf bracket, XYZ from the video. He could also do the same thing just by looking at any piece of woodwork in person, but he finds more inspiration online. His house is gorgeous by the way. There's all this intricately carved wooden furniture, and though he's not an artist to the level of his sister, he and Jinho have sketched designs for leaves and flowers Andrew carved into their bookcases and kitchen cabinets, etc.

Hallie (Hushabye Prince): likes watching heartwarming videos of children, especially little children, teen adoption videos, and all things on autism, as she works with quite a lot of autistic children and is always looking to learn more.

Jinho (Damsel in the Red Dress): hardly ever watches anything on social media or YT because he's insane lol. occasionally he'll watch clips or trailers from movies and television shows.

Kai: Anything inspirational, educational/gets his brain thinking, and workout videos.
Kyoge: Anything BESIDES cooking. He'd prefer to watch things about nature.
Amy: She'd watch YouTube just for the music.
Mikate: He'd watch videos on Comp. Sci., Electrical Engineering, and also complex crafting involving metals, carbon fibers, etc.

My father likes watching this show called "forged in fire" most if the episodes are people competing to make different kinds of weapons in a time frame. It's like "Chopped" but for blades basically.

Mikate would definitely watch something like that. He really wants to make his own gear/tech. So inspiration from shows like these would actually help him generate ideas.

AHh, then he'd be watching those real life iron man suit type youtubers too

100% would. If they can show how to make it, he'll watch it. (Btw, I sent a reply to your dm but it's really long :cry_01:)

Melissa (Damsel in the Red Dress) would watch tons of tiktoks uploaded to youtube, including but not limited to, challenges where you ask your husband/boyfriend to open a pickle jar you glued shut, the asking your significant other to do what they want to do for a day, etc.

Riley's side of the internet is very dark, (and illegal) but Leia listens to a lot of music and watches MVs on Youtube. They live in the 2000s early 2010s when almost everything was owned by some Vevo music channel. She's specifically into Linkin Park, SWS, Thousand Foot Krutch, and rather shame-facedly, Britt Nichole. She was kinda corny, but it's the sort of music that is just so positive it makes her feel better because she just lives a really exhausting, sad life honestly. Britt Nichole is her pick-me-up.

This is available for free for everyone to read

Teasing my novel which drops June 15th:

Dominic would probably watch music videos from whatever artists he's into at the time. Some clips from musicals, especially older musicals. Writing channels even though he doesn't write, as well as movie and book analysis videos and reviews.

Also any part of the internet making jokes about books or funny commentary on books and movies. Jill Bearup, Honest Trailers, and so on.

Cocoa watches a little bit of everything. Mostly shorts from a lot of couple or family YT channels, but also some simple comedic sketches too.

Tiffany likes watching romance/slice of life shows but she'd never admit it.

Avis mostly just uses YT to listen to music and occasionally watch talent shows.

Texas is trying to learn to draw, so a lot of speed paints to motivate her, as well as art tutorials and art improvement year/month plans. She also watches a lot of award-winning short films too.

Chili likes watching kpop MVs and web dramas. Kpop inspires him a lot to make new outfits for his comic

Christopher likes to watch game play-throughs and anime reviews.

Mora watches makeup and hair-style tutorials pretty often.

Mrs. George will watch sewing videos and recipes for inspiration, and Mr. George occasionally watches videos on building things and home repair to learn a new skill or get inspiration for a new home project.

Kazuya watches a lot of baking videos for fun. He's a baker by profession. Gyeong-Wan is watching a lot of drag queen videos, especially from RuPaul's Drag Race, because he wants to discover the world of drag queens since Kazuya is a drag queen. Both of these things happen in canon in the book.

Tales of Valor
for Ozwald he likes sewing hacks, music videos, and deep dives into things something the last like 2+ hours.
Higen he is silly, he likes animal videos, scary videos probably presented in a top 5 fashion, historical facts, DIY videos and combat/fighting tactics.
Side note, I do believe Higen would take anything a video says as a fact because "how would lie in the internet?"

Melissa ("Damsel in the Red Dress") likes watching cooking videos for food she's never even going to try to learn to make. Her son likes watching soccer games, especially ones with Lionel Messi, who is his favorite athlete. Her husband is the type to doom scroll until he dozes off and never watches anything

27 days later

Texas is for sure watching tutorials on how to bake cat-safe cookies. Chili regularly watches art videos from people like Mark Crilley so he can improve his art.

Well, I'm realizing that I didn't do this with the sister series!

Clyborne plays a lot of video games. He's very good at them lol. His Youtube channel consists of twitch streams (He also has a twitch channel) and various I.T./ tech videos that he watches very intently.

Rin has full internet access...but he doesn't use the internet for anything other than socializing with friends. He has several opinions about TikTok and none of them are positive lol. Rin watches old vhs tapes of famous magicians as well as old movies and tv shows.

BUT...Cly can occasionally get the kid to watch a Youtube video or two about magic tricks.

been a while since I've seen you on the forums. Has nobody ever told Rin he can watch "Fool Us" with Penn and Teller on Youtube?

That is one of the few Youtube videos that Rin will actually sit down and watch. :joy:

But he likes VHS tapes. He thinks they're neat.

She doesn't watch videos, but when Texs and Chili aren't home Pudding keep "accidentally" taking pictures and video of her own doodles.
