When I received my bowl back, it was only half full. “Hey…”
“There’s no more left.” Tetora growled.
“Did you even divvy it up right?”
“Everyone got the same amount who wanted seconds!” Tetora’s tail lashed angrily.
“Just let me inspect your bowl to make sure.” I stood up and leaned over the table to gauge. “As I suspected…” His bowl was filled to the brim!
“A surcharge for table-side service! You get what you get!”
“And you don’t get upset.” Nora finished with a smirk.
“The heck I don’t…” I struck, stabbing a sizeable chunk of potato right out his bowl with my fork.
“Did you see what she just did?!” Tetora exclaimed to Aleph.
“Yes. Her reflexes are much quicker now.”

Hello!! Here's my work, Chasing Grief. It's a story in poetry form. It's about a woman who lost her love and is trying to navigate her feelings of loss, grief, and despair by going through life, death, and in between for answers to all her questions. Maybe in the end, too, she gets to reconcile with her hear :)) It's full of imagery, emotions, and feelings. I hope you look into it and give it some love!! <3 This is the last chapter for the third part btw, and the fourth (and last part) will come out soon!!
Here's a snippet:
"Open your eyes, I say, til we meet again
Awaken on land, in the fields of flower where you lay
Where the winds once blew, where it all began
And where you once swore with him to stay"

He bit through his thread and, as he tied it off, said, “She’s just an old curmudgeon. Doesn’t like volshebniks, doesn’t like having a volshebnik here, definitely doesn’t like you trying to make me a volshebnik. Also, she thinks you’re a bad worker. So, no, she’s never going to like you.”
I pulled the needle too hard and ripped the fabric again. I banged my fist on the table.
“This really bothers you, huh?” He smirked harder than normal.
“I’m used to people not liking me.”
“Hey.” He shifted and covered my hand with his. “I like you.” Then he laughed uproariously.
When he took his hand away, the back of mine burned, and my breathing hitched.
This wasn’t surprising. In retrospect, maybe I should have been concerned. Maybe I should have wondered if the real reason I was doing any of this was because I had a crush on a boy who held a knife to my throat.
Iyu Aksanevich is a bastard—literally, and, some would say, figuratively—but his father’s royal blood means he can use magic, which no commoner can. At least, that’s what he believes until he’s kidnapped during a peasant rebellion. His captors force him to confront some difficult questions: is magic really tied to bloodlines, or is there a different, more sinister reason that some people in this world are magic and others aren’t?
“We didn’t do anything wrong!” Prohibited items? It’s not like we knew this was going to happen! And what about what happened to us? I may not have read my employment contract in its entirety but surely I didn’t agree to all this!
“It’s HR. That’s how it works. But forget about that for now. What do you think NAUGHT stands for?”
“Naught?” It was both a clarifying question and a questionable answer.
“It’s an acronym. NAUGHT. What do you think it means?” Nora asked me again.
“It means nothing!”
“No, it’s definitely something important. Hmmm… This is going to bother me until I figure it out. This is why you define acronyms in writing the first time you use them.”

“Now will you tell me what you asked for?” I asked.
“Mmm. God-like powers to do anything I want. But also the meaning of NAUGHT, as in the acronym.”
“W-what?!”
“It’s still bothering me!”
“My exclamation was about the first part!”
“What? The more unreasonable your request is at first, the more likely you are to get a more innocuous one approved! Ask for the moon, get a moon rock?”
“Innocuous?”
“Inoffensive, harmless, mild.”
Innocuous didn’t sound innocuous to me. “Oh.”

The classroom was quiet, except for the soft tap-tap of raindrops against the windowpane. I sat at my desk, staring at the blank pages of my journal. My name is Aoi, and I'm just an ordinary girl living an ordinary life—or at least, that's what I tell myself.
I sighed, the pen in my hand feeling heavy as I finally put it on the paper. "Dear Journal," I began, my writing shaky. "Today was... just another day."
I glanced around the room, taking in the familiar faces of my friends. Emi was hunched over her notebook, sketching away as usual. I envied how she could lose herself in her art, creating beauty from nothing.
Then there was Kaoru, a whirlwind of energy and laughter. She leaned over to whisper something to the girl next to her, her vibrant red hair a stark contrast to the gray day outside. Kaoru had this way of making even the dullest days feel exciting.
But my thoughts always seemed to circle back to Hiroki—Kaoru's older brother and the person who had once been a source of light in our lives. His image was etched in my mind, from his tousled sandy-brown hair to his warm hazel eyes. I cherished a secret affection for him that I'd kept hidden since childhood, known only to me and the pages of my journal.
With a sigh, I closed my journal and let my mind wander to a memory. It was a memory of us by the riverbank, our feet splashing in the water as we laughed. The sun had painted everything in golden hues, and for that moment, everything felt perfect.
But perfection is fragile. I remembered that rainy evening when everything changed. Hiroki and I had gone to the riverbank despite the rain, finding joy in each other's company. And then, in an instant, it all went wrong.
