A long time ago I came across is awesome animated trailer that I assumed was for a movie. It was Journey to the West set in a sci-fi setting and had Wukong riding a sick motorcycle.
Cut to last year after playing Black Myth I was reminded of that trailer. It's been ages, surely that movie has already come out, but after much searching, I never found any trace of that supposed "movie" nor the original trailer I saw. I came to the conclusion that it might have been a student's demo reel or a studio's proof of concept. I was disappointed, but it inspired me to draw my own version.
I ended up really liking it and showed the concept art to my writer, and we ended up brainstorming a script.
So yea, my comic was created because I really wanted to draw a monkey on a bike.
