Phant fact number 1:

Faun horns are made of keratin, just like fingernails. So when fauns want to hide their horns or pretend to be human they can file them away or cut them. It doesn’t hurt, and they’ll grow back, but, again, like fingernails, it’ll take a while.

Also, it’s just a real pain to try to file them away with an emery board, and nail clippers are never ever big enough for that, so they have to use a special kind of serrated blade sort of like a little bread knife. But for horns.

In my fantasy novel, The Faerie Dusters, I spin a tale of the Shee, a hidden fairy world diminished by internal war and time. The Shee use Phravic magic, and their skins change color to indicate whether they are happy, sad, angry, etc. Before I began writing the book, I went to the library to research fairies. Many of us are most familiar with the Celtic tales of fairies, but fairies exist in the lore of all countries. In fact, the 'putting out of the Frid' which appears in the novel, is not Celtic but Scandinavian or Norwegian.

It is a small bowl of milk to appease the little people.

Hmm, I wonder how many countries really have fairy lore. We have sirens in my country's lore, jungle sirens, but I've never heard of there being fairies

Phant fact number 2:

Mermaids are, in fact, venomous. Their venom is a neurotoxin and an irritant. They can’t make this venom on command, it is part of their body’s panic response and is a variation of their saliva that happens when they believe they are in danger.

They can use this venom by spitting it onto people, in which case it will burn, not like acid, but like when you get spicy pepper juices on your skin. And if this venom gets inside your body it will paralyze your lungs. They don’t have to bite you for this to happen, you’ll be paralyzed if it makes your way into our mouth as well, so basically no spontaneously kissing a mermaid without her permission unless you literally want to die.

fun fact from story number 1:
The old angels and all demons have wings that are semi-material. They only appear when the person takes them out - but.... that they have them is not inherent knowledge like knowing the presence of arms or legs. This means that if, for example, a demon has never seen them in anyone and has not known about them since birth, it will not be aware that it can do so.
+ These are insanely delicate and innervated limbs if they are already spread out.

Phant fact number 3:

Phants are immortal by nature, but they have a very high mortality rate.

Yes phants live forever, but honestly, they don’t really. Most phants never live past the age of sixty. This is because the nature of their existence leave them susceptible to being hunted down and killed. Hunted down and forced to live in poor conditions that lead to any kind of illness or disease. Malnutrition or simply a lack of care necessary to their version of a phant is a very common cause of illness in phants because it can be very hard to care for their unique needs when they are on the run or being held hostage.

Many phants deal with homelessness because of having to move around constantly for their safety and struggling to find new homes and jobs. Then there’s just the mental health aspect. Most phants live with constant stress, anxiety and depression, so many die from depression related issues.

a story called "The First Mother" (which this is artwork from) is the oldest recorded account of phants in the world's history. It tells the story of a dryad who was the first living thing.
