Share the inspiration for your Horror comic/ Meet other horror lovers

I'm new to Tapastic and have a comic called Undone. I wanted to share it and maybe hook up with some other horror lovers and see what inspires them and how they keep their comics from being cliche...Also I'm wondering if other creators think it's more or less difficult to attract readers to the genre of horror than other types of stories. Mostly I just wanted to see some cool horror art, meet some fellow creators, and give people a chance to share their stuff:)

Heya. I have a manga, but it's sort of in a state of flux as I do some heavy work. It's fantasy/cosmic horror with a focus on magic and murder.
Here is is, and I have another series for my sketches and stuff.

People like charcaters they can get attached to, that are human and they can relate to. Even though it's horror, you can nail those things all the same. It's just a different way of storytelling is all. Mine isn't all there right now, hopefully the revamp will revive it, though nothing is being removed, just postponed and redrawn.

Hi! I'll have to check your comics out, they look pretty rad! Sad to see a bit of a lack of activity here (horror is fantastic).

While my current comic isn't necessarily horror at the moment most all my other projects are. In fact I'm currently working on a second trippy horror comic that should hopefully start updating pretty soon. : ) (ill add some actual art when I get home to my laptop lol)

And I guess to add to an initial question asked in the op, I think horror comics can be amazing and successful, but it's an inherently difficult genre to write and produce, and the audience is also inherently a bit more slim, as bad horror has scared a lot of potential fans off for good. Really it just takes a lot of effort, but in the end I think horror is one of the least explored and most interesting genres out there, and I'm pretty happy to see horror popping up in higher quality lately.

It depends on which horror sub-genre you are working at. On short creepy storys preying on primal fears - easy. On bloodbath massacre gore - yes.

Hey it's great seeing more horror fans around the forums! I like Undone a lot, the disjointed narrative does a good job of creating uneasiness, I'm also really curious about the main characters motives, great opening all in all.
Personally I think there is definitely a big audience for horror, but certain people like certain types of horror (and are likewise totally turned off to others) so the number get's divided when a comic is too centered around one type of horror. There's also the fact that a lot of horror comics have the same downfall of being so focused on the scares that they leave their characters poorly developed, which can turn off potential readership.
Also here's a video that's could be a huge resource to fellow horror writers!

It's an interesting topic, for sure! Lovecraft is a huge influence on my own work, though it is still technically a fantasy. What I really like about Lovecraftian horror at its best is the intellectual horror part: an eerie atmosphere, a sense of unease, and the truly chilling revelation in the end. It's definitely something I find in my favorite horror movies, too. What I think makes horror less suitable to a comic format is that this kind of atmosphere is very difficult to create, and I just don't think that jump scares or gore work nearly as well here as they work in the movies or games. But hey, Junji Ito and Mike Mignola did it, right?
That aside, I think a big part of the challenge in attracting new readers to a horror comic is most people not already familiar with all the horror subgenres think that all horror = gore. So when you place that tag on your comic, you may inadvertently alienate the very readers you wanted to attract in the first place. This is why I prefer to tag my comic as "fantasy" or maybe "dark fantasy". Thoughts?

I never thought of this... maybe I should start pegging my comic as "dark fantasy."

I tag it as fantasy/horror because I wasn't really sure how else to say "hey this is a gory comic" even though it doesn't really have any elements of horror, I was just banking on people associating gore = horror like you said.

But I think "dark fantasy" sounds better!!

My horror comic was inspired by Rob Dyke's channel on Youtube. he has a popular series called Seriously Strange and i really wanted to make a comic for Rob and his fans.
