I am an American, but I actually really it hate whenever I see someone describe the Eurovision Song Contest, to other unknowing Americans, and the first thing they say is that it's just awful without much detailed explanation WHY. I'm not denying that some of the entries are sub-par, but a lot of time and money goes into making each performance- the least a person can do is find the good entries and showcase those as examples of what Eurovision is.
I hate that the majority of nay-saying Eurovision audiences are divided between either hating it for being a freak show and hating it when it's not freak show enough (like this year, for the 60th anniversary, it was pretty mellow and less freakshow-ish and all these people said it was boring).
I hate it when hardcore Eurovision fans go to war in the comment section of Eurovision's youtube channel. LIKE SERIOUSLY GEORGIA AND MALTA, CALM DOWN! IT'S JUST MUSIC!
I hate it that some countries change their song submissions for the contest. Half the time it's not a pleasant improvement from the original piece. I maybe a native English speaker, but I also actually really hate it when some entries are swapped out of their original languages for an English version. Most of the time the message of the song is lost or changed entirely.
This can't be helped, but I also actually really hate that the stage performances have a limit to how many people can be on stage at once. I think it's like a five or six person limit, but it really just ruins some songs. And since we're on the subject- DANCING AND SINGING IS HARD!! Haters need to recognize when an artist is having trouble doing both- the performances are freaking LIVE! R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!
I EXTREMELY hate it that A LOT of people don't bother watching Semi-Final One and Two and just watch the Grand Final. They have NO IDEA WHAT COUNTRIES THEY ARE MISSING! Not to mention they miss some of the few better songs that get filtered out because of the super political voting portions. And yes, I hate that politics tends to win out when it comes to voting for MUSIC. UUUGGGGG!!
LASTLY, I hate that I can't host a Eurovision party in America because not enough Americans know what it is, let alone the countries that participate in it. I mean, I had to clean coffee off my Cypriot flag this year because this jerk thought it was a napkin and the yellow graphic was just some shop logo. ARRGGG!
