Yes, that's definitely a common thing. They will appropriate the language of feminism merely to draw in feminist women. It's a pickup strategy, a way to compete with the more traditionally "alpha" types.
But it goes so much further than that. There is a plurality of examples of men of differing levels of notoriety, from minor e-celbs to the super famous, who go out of their way to white knight for women on any occasion they get, who parrot all the progressive talking points about fighting for women's empowerment, and how men need to step up to make the world a safer place for women, who take part in videos, and campaigns, and who voraciously attack all the right "toxic" movements and wrong-thinkers. Some even build their entire public persona on virtue signalling how they're one of the "good guys".
And over the course of the last couple of years, they've all been exposed as everything from pedophiles, to violent sociopaths, to rapists, sexual harassers and abusers, or just plain dirt bags who treat women like pieces of meat or notches on their belt.
Of course I'm not saying that all men who personally identity with the feminist label are like this, but what I will do is warn any woman to be very wary of a man who wears his feminism like a ribbon on his chest, or takes every opportunity he gets to publicly and fervently white knight for women he perceives as being wronged. In my experience, these kinds of men are trying to cover up or make amends for something dark in their private lives.
