Title says it all!

Do you prefer your comics sketchy, clean, or does it not matter? :open_mouth:

I don't think it matters as long as the comic is nice to look at and easy to read!

I prefer clean, but (from my own sad experience) I understand, that it consumes much more time. So I don't mind sketchy comics as well, if it's good for other reasons.

i think both have unique appeals - however i prefer drawing in a sketchy & gestural style, and i think styles that are a bit messy have more character

There's boring clean and messy sketchy. The people who are good at clean know how to avoid being stiff and use the right lines, while the people who are good at sketchy know how to capture gesture and sentiment.

For my own comics - definitely clean.
For other comics - mostly clean, but sometimes I find messy styles pretty great, it depends on the specific comic.

I agree with this statement! I think sometimes the sketchy look works as long as the sketchy look looks intentional. You can tell when an artist intentionally does it and just forgets to erase the lines. However, when colored, the clean lines I think look nicer

I have no preference as long as the art is well done and expressive. As for myself, I drawn tight and clean.

I honestly don't mind either. Sometimes I realize my sketchy art can look better than when I try to clean it up. Anyone else experience this? lol

All the time  I can't really do fully lined super clean work so I've decided that a sketchy messy style.... is just my style! Some of my favorite artists have messy styles which is good cuz when I was little I thought finished art could only be super clean and pristine.

I'm almost half tempted to just start going sketchy on my art because, frankly, I think I like it more!

I'm reading a bunch of comics with clean line work, but I'm finding that the most memorable stuff I've read had a sketchy style so... I'd say I vastly prefer sketchy, but I'm super picky about it lol

While we're on the subject of sketchy or clean, where does this fall under? It's aesthetic as hell to me

Super Mario Strikers art style

It doesn't matter to me. I've seen some quality comics that utilize both styles of art.

I prefer clean, but sketchy can be used occasionally to show creativity in expressing an idea.

For the initial sketch, of course it's going to be messy, but when I do the lineart, I prefer it to be clean. Because I lost my stylus pen, I am only able to use the curve tool from Paint Tool SAI. So, my artworks sometimes come out as stiff because they're so clean and the lines don't have any gaps at all.

I personally prefer sketchy comics though, as long as they don't appear too lazy or messy. Sketchy can be quite wonderful to stare at. :hibiscus:

Sketchy, that's sketchy as hell on toast, it gives the feeling of the artist just going wild with the pencil and paint which is fitting for a game where you push characters onto an electrified fence just to get to a ball XD
