Put a link to your comic in your profile for the forum! When you engage in interesting conversations on the forums, people who are curious about you will look for it there, and you never know when you'll get a follower. The forums are not going to launch anyone to stardom, but they can be a good place to find a start. And I think natural conversation helps more than most of the promotion threads.
I would encourage anyone who is having trouble getting views to rethink their cover and comic description. These are the first impression of your comic, so if either one is off, you could loose potential readers before they see the actual comic. I don't know what gag-a-day comic descriptions tend to look like, but maybe you could add a hint of your comics humor into yours?
After that I'd guess facebook, and twitter are good places to be posting a lot of your comics to look for traction. I don't have much advice when it comes to advertising on the outside.
Don't expect much here without more of a following*. Speaking from my own experience, I'd usually mention my ko-fi and the end/start of a chapter, and just ask for people who want to help support the comic to donate, and occassionally they would. If you get to a point where you can unlock tapas support program (ink = real money) you can offer rewards like exclusive art for donators that reach a certain tier. I think I had over a thousand followers before I started my patreon, but mine is a fantasy comic focusing on story and romance, so the draw there is for advanced pages of the comic.
I hope some of that helps, sorry if any of it is redundant or obvious!
*Clarifying: Only a very small percentage of readers will actually comment or like, an even smaller fraction will offer monetary support. So it just takes a lot of people statistically before anything tends to happen monetarily. But it's not like there's a magic number here thats "enough", you just have to feel it out!
