So I wanted to tell everyone that I got my first chapter published into an issue book to be sold. And Im in the middle of doing some stuff with it and I thought information (as well as a little promotion) wouldn't hurt for if anyone wanted to try and attempt at what I am doing.
So I got JETX published. Woo! I am happy and it looks good. My goal with it is that I am going to try and sell it in a store and see how that all debacle goes. I had a few wanting to sell a handful to test the waters (as Ive had to deal with that myself).
Another thing you may have noticed with the quotations around "published", well reasoning for that is as follows:
I live in Australia, Where I live is a absolute shit-hole of a place. People are horrible to one another and there is no work. The only work you can possibly get where I live is in the Mines, Mining things like coal and getting dust in your lungs for the filthy rich people that sell it as exports. That being said, Comic publishers died out in the early 1900's when all they did was reprint DC and Marvel comics over here and old war stories to do with the second world war. Nobody was interested in them at all. (Plus low and behold it seems alot of folks dont like the arts because its not important.) Anyways, Speed up to 2010 and some little indie folks are coming out around here with self-publishing comics and novels, So no real publishers as of yet. So its more, you do it yourself.
Speed up again to the current day. And there are SOME publishers starting out. Printing your comics and selling them for you. But not to as much of a degree with ACTUAL publishers. But sorta still act like some.
Anyways with me rambling about that history. Lets get to the meaty bit. I got JETX's first chapter printed through a group of artists known as "REVERIE" who have been selling indie books. So what these group of folks do. (Or well did lol) Is go to conventions on your behalf and sell books among the populace and get a bit of money for them as well as spreading the word of your book. They would sell you (or if you're lucky, give you) a handful to sell for yourself. So I managed to get some books and I plan on selling them at a store. I cutted out some costs if I were to print them myself so I got the GST taken out from the printing process (which over here. Is like 50+ because you know. You NEED to take away money from the poor). Anyways. I got a few and Im working out some deals with selling them at a store out of state. I will update with more posts as I go.
I know alot of folks will say "This doesn't apply to me" or "This isnt real publishing, You could get ripped off!" or something along those lines. Yes I would agree. And I was hyperventalating and pissing myself with anxiety about the entire process as one would do. But I had to understand that over here things are different. And because I cant work. I have to find some way any way I can to make some money even if it was a dollar a time. (Literally anything is better than where I am now). So I would say for those who are like me, feel a bit lost (And I suppose in Australia as well and really don't know what to do with their creativity right now.)
I DO however have a proof copy for a print on demand site from the UK coming in the mail so international readers can be able to buy it to support me as well since the "Publisher" doesnt sell overseas. I WILL also be updating this topic with that kind of info because they seem affordable and for anyone that was to do hard covers and what not I want to link them to this if I think they're worth the time. (Rude I know. But since Im paying like 40 dollars AUD for a service. It better be damn good. And its 40 dollars because of currency conversion for like a Pound or USD dollar is like 200 dollars AUD. We get the shit end of the stick.) Anyways. Yeah!
PS: JETX is still avaliable to read online for free still. Ill just be trying to release issue books as they're made to encourage folks to buy them so they can read pages ahead in advance. lol
Man I'm tired from typing this out. I hope its coherent enough. lol
