You write your novel because you love to write, or you want to get attention?
If you want to get attention, learn how to capture the attention of readers.
Tell a story to readers is diffirent than write down a story that you fully understand in your head.
Everything you interested can't be interest by your readers.
If you want to learn how to resolve any problem while creating your novel, you should learn how to write a story in the right way. Learn how to create a story, how to build a character, how to be interesting.
I only read your Prologue so i can only give you some constructive criticism:
Your first sentence confused me: "Night sets on the damp lush tropical landscape of eastern Haiti,..."
I immediately thought that "Why the help should I care about this?!". You made a mistake at two important points: non-focus sentence and started to describe a place unnecessarily. I don't even know how Haiti looks like nowaday, so how could I imagine what's Haiti looked like in 1984? Then you tell nothing about it.
Compared to @Penni's novel: "What do you mean you won't help me?!"
This sentence is a motif for a good starting point. This raise your readers curious, "what is happening?" and then continue to read. After the first sentence, I can see an angry woman who got mad about someone, and then the other person and the atmosphere of the situation began to emerge. This is how a good start should be.
I hope this is enought for you to understand the point I was trying to make.
Keep learning and don't give up!
