I don't like daily reads a a metric of just because as someone who physically cannot, due to pain from nerve inflammation, update often, such an algorithm would punish me for only being able to update once every two weeks. I'm already at a disadvantage because of that, but at least the sub numbers are, in some way, independent of how often I update - and are rather a representation of how many people thought what I do is interesting at some point in time. Tracking daily reads punishes people like me twice - once for not updating often and having fewer opportunities to gain eyes on our work, and a second time... for the same thing, but now burying us even deeper from a possible audience.
