Some dicussion thread about Crawling city/Crawling dreams/Negative frames

is a weird predicament

it spawned from crawling city

in terms of writing
as I feel crawling dreams and Negative frames took their own concepts that was put in from crawling city, and they kinda strayed off and made their own stories with them while crawling city kinda went to limbo...

basically, both comics are crawling dreams but not really, but it's also canon to crawling city world
but not really, they're also somewhat related to crawling city, but not really...

does anyone agree with me?

Well, the writer of The Crawling City created Crawling Dreams while the artist of The Crawling City created Negative Frames, so it's not really surprising that they are similar. In the process, I think they both abandoned The Crawling City to do their own things.

but the thing is, crawling dreams and Negative frames BOTH don't just share writing or art style similarities from CC, but the also directly use concepts and characters from the prior...

Aria into NF, Illuminati/secret organization and apocalypse setting into CD, shticks like that.

well it all has the same type of horror elements (i forget the name of it now but someone will correct me) but they do share similar universes. If anything I think Negative Frames has closer relation to Crawling City because it actually maintins the characters from the original series the only thissing missing at the moment is the Tentacle monster whose name I can't recall. Despite that there's still the episode where Kaz and Aria talk about the dreams they're both having which include tentacles. Maybe Aria's dreams are the events of Crawling City? Maybe it's something else.

Crawling dreams on the otherhand does share a lot of similarities with Crawling Dreams but the characters are still different save for maybe the director. Still it feels more like a parallel to the original story rather than it being the same one. Plus Gug (that's his name) didn't have some kind of disguise like our cat creature in Dreams does he was either full monster or just hiding in Aria's bag.

Aria was Paroro's OC from before The Crawling City apparently. So The Crawling City is more of a collaboration than the original. Either way, it's more content for us.

what slightly bothers my logic is BECAUSE the Director and Aria exists in their own series, while )I'm just assuming here) that those two series aren't directly canon to CC

it's like Goku and Krillin moving away from DBZ and making their own series that's seperate from the DBZ world, but they're practically the same characters... (personally, I do like NF more than CC in my opinion, but the idea boggles me)

but i think the director, or rather a director exists in the NF universe just like once exists in the CD universe just like their predecessor CC. But yeah it's obvious that CD isn't directly related to CC but there are a few parallels that make me think that NF and CD have some connections even if their not exactly the same universe. Like there's a whole multiverse theory that could be applied but that's taking fiction to seriously for me even if it's a fun idea to entertain.

A few of the reasons though why i think there's at least some connection between CD and NF, aside from Aria's existing in the story, are similar events that occur in both. I'd have to go back and read them side by side just to see what checks out and what doesn't but again fun ideas to entertain when the mind has time to bother with it.

Crawling Dreams is basically Crawling City with diffrent characters, Merryweather said this themself. Merry is the writer and Paroro is the artist of Crawling City, for some reason, they stopped working together. But Merry said that they really like Crawling City story and want to keep writing about it, but the Characters belong to Paroro, so they don't have the right to keep making Crawling city, so they made another version of Crawling City with new characters, which is Crawling Dreams.

Negative Frame created by Paroro, who's holding the copyright of Aria's design, so it's normal for Aria appear in NF.

(It's lovecraftian, they're interchangable, with eldritch, well technically its more lovecraft aesthetics than straight up horror... but yeah, that shiz is full of tenticles...)

also @PervertOldMan you pretty much summarized it all! I still find it kind of weird, so that's that!

I'll call it the "Crawling city, but not really crawling city" collection!
