Like with every form of art, we're really on the shoulders of giants, hopelessly trying to follow their footsteps. So i just wanted to go off here and shoutout some of my personal heroes. And first off ill start this by saying RIP kim jung Gi. I have no idea how i wasn't aware he passed back in 2022. Wat da.
Kim jung gi- one of the greatest of all time. A golden master. Truly amazing and extremely influential. Rip buddy rest easy.
Akira Toriyama also RIP everyone loves him. Guaranteed everyone has seen his artwork which- that fact alone makes him one of the greats. If there were ever a mount Rushmore but with artists faces, his would be there. Dbz is my childhood straight up. So important.
Yoshitaka amano - you owe it to yourself to become familiar with him if you somehow aren't. Its literally impossible for him to make anything that isnt amazing. He is one of my biggest inspirations. Final fantasy - vampire hunter Bloodlust - oh its so good. Everything he ever did is insanely good and i could stare at his drawings every single day and never be tired of it.
Hiroo isono - I won't blame anyone for not hearing anything about him. He was responsible for the artwork for secret of mana. RIP to him. He is a legend to me. His paintings are also one of my inspirations. Every last thing he did is super interesting. Probably the best use of color and scenery and depth of anything I've ever seen. I want to own his art book one day. When i first saw the artwork for secret of mana on snes i was captivated. I was obsessed with looking at every tiny detail in that painting. Its so good. I didn't know it was possible to do the stuff he did.
Todd McFarlane. His art was some of the earliest i was exposed to that lit a flame under me. So good. So yucky and loose and free but also tight- seriously spawn is one of the coolest things out there.
Hiyao miyazaki obviously. Ponyo my favorite anime movie. Howls moving castle. 10/10 masterpieces. Perfect. Those movies are perfection.
Those are just some of if my big heroes i felt like nerding out over. Those guys are straight up titans.
