Something for the Fantasy Writers-- The Afterlife

Ok so here's how things are gonna work. You have an afterlife concept as part of your lore and/or story go ahead and share it, but, you have to say your opinion about the writer-above-you's concept. I'll talk about a multiple amount of people's posts once the thread slows down to make up for the fact that there's no one before me. Ok so here's my concept:

I want my afterlife shaded with mystery so I'll just not even say its name, but essentially it takes the form of forests and plains with tall grass, with mountains in a shape of a crescent moon. A single path made of gravel and cobblestone. A long the path are broken bridges, grey bears, fences made out of cobblestone and cottages of sorts that are destroyed but still have the remnants of their former inhabitant's life inside them. This afterlife has reminders of older societies in it but to give it a mystic feel, I decided to make everything in the afterlife have a palette of darker blues and lighter grays, even the grass is a lighter form of blue. In this afterlife it's always a mix between twilight and sundown but it, y'know, more blue. The blue hue of this world is meant to calm the soul after lives of turmoil, because once they enter this zone, people are basked in a feeling a fulfillment, ready to sleep.

That's a pretty interesting afterlife. I'm pretty curious about the grey bears are there black/brown bears as well? Lol. But I like the concept of fragments of their life and the fulfillment they feel. I also wonder if they are ready to sleep, do they eventually go to sleep? Or are in an eternal state of sleepiness?
For my fantasy world. There are many different species/cultures/religions and each with their own interpretations of the life to come. For example the elves (immortal) for their own kind believe in an eternal place in which there is a perfect state of "Utopia" they merely exist in this state and it's one of constant peace, blue skies, Meadows, glasslike lakes, that kind of thing. They still maintain memories of the life they lived before and it's just a transition. Being deeply religious they believe this is where they'll exist with their creator. They also believe that for those that have done wrong/evil will fade into Oblivion their "immortality" taken away and they become nothing.
Humans (for the most part) believe the dragons are their gods. They believe that the dragons have created other worlds and when they die their spirits are taken to these worlds, depending on how they've lived their life is where they will go.
Nature spirits and centuars believe in the idea of rebirth.
Fairies believe that their spirits are what give their world it's magic/energy, "becoming a part of this world" belief. They're not much about an after life.
And of course there's many many more. But these are just an example. I won't say which one is correct, bc I myself do not know

My fantasy world (note: it's low fantasy) doesn't have a set exact afterlife shown other then what various religions and myths say (or none if said person doesn't believe in one), just to portray and preserve the mystery surrounding death.

Of course, some characters are portrayed to see "something" upon or during their death, but it's rather something that only occurs in his mind before dying and very short-lived (just like fleeting illusion, recollection, or dream) not real afterlife. Another case is when the person is actually not really dead but their body and consciousness transcend physical form by some magic power and live a second life in another realm, they actually still alive just in other dimension and often mistaken as undead spirits...

Huh, seems like an interesting way of thinking about it.

The concept for afterlife in the series I'm working on is similar in that there is something, but it's in another dimension style of approach. The concept is that every action you take and word you speak impacts the world around you and leaves a sort of record of it in your soul. Evil actions and words cause your soul to become more attracted to the realm of darkness (essentially hell's bigger uglier and far more terrifying cousin), whereas Good actions and words cause your soul to become attracted to the realm of light (think heaven, but shinier). When your body dies your soul is sent to whichever realm it is more attracted to. It may seem odd, but it's the best I could come up with.

I've heard of similar things to your version of an afterlife, that's all I really have to say.

my version of it is probably a lot different... so, the story originally takes place in another dimension, and those who die in that dimension are sent into a different dimension and turn into shadow-like beings. there are some species that already inhabit that dimension, but they look a bit different. everyone who comes from either dimension has 2 lives, basically. if they can somehow escape the afterlife and get back to where they came from, they'll have another chance at living and will return to their original form, but if they die again, they're gone for good
