Oh I love this idea!!
Heart pounding furiously in a fit of rage, she almost ran into the barbed wire that stretched the length of the city. She hurriedly removed her backpack and hurled it over the fence, her rifle slung over her shoulder. After a quick survey of the fence, she spotted the point that appeared the slackest. With two hands, she firmly grasped the wire that hit below her hip and pushed it down. Looking back, she slowly lifted her leg and swung it-
āGnrhhhh!ā
The fence shook as an undead man flung himself onto it, his fingers reaching out to grab her. Shocked, she released her grip and the barbed wire bounced back into place. As she hurriedly backed away from the growling undead, a cut on her wrist caused her to hiss in pain.
With no time to lose, she unslung her rifle, aimed it and- click.
Fuck!
The music came to a stop. She waited for her phone to shuffle the next song, eager for something more heart-pumping. When the shrill whine of a violin pierced her ears, her breath caught in her throat. Flashes of a tall and skinny man shrouded in shadows burnt into her eyes.
She hissed sharply and gulped for air. Why was this song still in her phone?? She could have sworn she had wiped it from memory.
Curling into a ball, she keenly felt each vibration caused by the loud thumping of the soldierās boots around her home. The sounds of objects clattering and smashing followed, which made her wince each time. When they finally finished ransacking the place, she let out a small sigh, thinking that they would leave now.
A sudden shriek from her mother turned the blood in her veins ice cold. Hearing her mother cry out for her dead father, her own tears flowed of their own accord as she pressed a hand to her mouth to prevent her voice from leaving her. Her motherās cries then ended sharply, followed by a loud thump. Footsteps receded into the distance as the soldiers left her house, and she was plunged into deathly silence.
