Stolen Content and Legit Collection

I just noticed that mangafox is now taken down, from what I read online I believe that some japanese publisher starts to take action against illegal manga ripping site. This is actually good for the mangaka and the publisher but on the other hand it sucks because it would be hard in the future to reread some of my favourites. I wish there is some form of online website that can legitly provide permanent digital copy for these japanese manga. I wonder if tapas will ever try to acquire some of the japanese mangaka to post their manga over here in Tapas, it would be cool if I can just buy the ones I already enjoy and keep a legit digital collection so I can read them anytime without the risk of losing it.

On the other hand, to move on to this kind of ecosystem will take a lot of effort but I think the first step is always to eradicate the illegal ones out of internet to give space for the legit ones to flourish.

I've been wondering why this channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa_3xLQ6ytEdDecPujIV7bA hasn't been taken down yet. It stole Tapas own premium comic and even has the latest chapter on it. I wonder if Tapas @STAFF actually doesn't mind this, or they don't know about it.

So I have question to creators, what can you do if your comic is stolen? Do you have the means to issue takedowns just by yourself? Or will you just let it happen as a free publicity of your comic?

This is hilariously edgy. I imagine Tapas just doesn't know about it, and it's not a particularly great way to read the comic to begin with. There are way more efficient ways to pirate content....

Intellectual Property is a big messy subject, and most of us here are either A) too small to be stolen from or B) too small to do anything about it if we do get stolen from. If you hang around reddit & imgur, you'll probably find stolen gag-a-day comics with the credits removed, even stolen gag-a-day comics ABOUT their comics being stolen. It's obnoxious, but you can't really do anything about it, and in the grand scheme I don't think it really matters, most creators here make money from patreon, selling merch, or printed copies of their work (that's already published for free online by themselves). Sure it would sting if I found a tumblr blog rehosting mycomic without my permission, but it wouldn't significantly affect me, and I could probably just combat it by making my own, official mirror on tumblr.

Seeing as like... 90% of the premium comics here on tapas are imported from Korea that's probably not too far of a stretch.

I would very much enjoy seeing legal digital copies of japanese manga on Tapas but most (all?) manga is page format - Tapas premium comics seem to target mobile readers specifically, which are increasingly becoming the dominant webcomic audience.

Welp, didn't know that existed at all, thanks for the link, I just bought Attack on Titan on a heartbeat lol . This is what happen when a person lingers too much in illegal sites. Too bad Vagabond is not there..

Well it doesn't have to be their current series, it's just the mangaka themselves move over and make another story with their proven art skills, it would be fun to see some veteran professionals posting their new ideas here.
