Sub to unlock. It that a good idea?

Hi all there are lot of the Ink to unlock episodes.
But I will try another way...
First there came 3 Episode.
Then we need to be 5 Subscriber to unlock 2 more episodes.
Then we need to be 7 Subscriber to unlock 2 more episodes.
then...then...

Is that a good idea to do???

I'm going to say that we got subscribers by just producing content consistently. It wasn't fast, but it worked. I would say it's better to see if people will cross promote with you (There are different threads for that).

I'd say focus on your content and what you are making. Try to make the best quality product you can. If there is a set story, then consider writing a basic outline to help you stay on track. Maybe even consider taking a week or two to create a backlog of updates in case life gets busy.

As you get more subs, you can do little contest things like "I'll do a raffle for a free sketch when we get to 15 subs" or something like that.

I think for that system to be really effective, you would need a large following who or large exposure to draw people in. It does take time to build up a following but as @Rodimus13 be consistent and focus on quality

Thanks girls, I know it takes some time, that I also have my main story (Catmen World)
So I just do that one here to take my inner GOT nerd out. I can't draw better then that, but for my is funny.
I will maybe not do the sub to ep. that all this just are fun for me.

Some peoples might ended up getting turned off from the "reach this amount of insert something to unlock the next chapter" kind of promoting strategy. Imho, it's best to not do it like that.

I feel it's important for creators not to get wrapped up in numbers. Focus on developing yourself and your work and the rest will follow. There's nothing wrong with promoting yourself but don't loose sight into what is important.

Honestly I think that kind of promotion would make me less interested in reading your comic. I wouldn't want to be a loyal reader who can't continue to read because the author can't get enough subs. If I saw that kind of promotion on a comic I wouldn't bother subbing. If I was already a reader it may convince me to drop the series.

I do see the idea from a creators point of view.
And I do think this is a good creative debate on how can we gain promotion, out of the box.
But as a single reader, I will feel punished.
The pay for ep works bc it is up to the single reader to unlock. Not the entire reader base.

Just like in the theater.

As a reader, that sounds more insulting than rewarding. If you are going to be producing stories online for people to read then dont try to punish them just because you cant make your own goals.

I think not updating at all unless you get more subscribers would be a very bad idea: there's pretty good odds you'd end up alienating your readers. Unlike ink/likes/comments, it's also something that your current fans have already supported you with, and unless they have friends with tapas accounts who'd also like your work it's unlikely they'll be able to do much about your sub count.
If you seriously want to have sub bonuses, I'd recommend that you have regular updates, and then a counter for a bonus episode (ex. 'If we reach x [likes/subscribers/shares] I'll post an extra episode that month!').

this sounds like a horrible idea since one of the few ways to gain exposure is through updates.

I found interesting comics and stopped reading them and didn't subscribe to them, because viewing the latest pages required unlocked them.
