Sudden influx of subs?

I had a big influx of subs last weeknd, but haven't been able to identify where they came from. I'm fairly new here and it doesn't seem to correlate to posting here or anywhere else, is it just the algorithm randomly swaying in my favour? Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a general ebb and flow to the interactions you get on your comics? What seem to be the factors or patterns that you all notice?

I'm curious if anyone else has had something similar, I'd like to identify what I did right (If anything at all) so I can do it again, I hope!

There certainly hasn’t been one for me. Ever since the sub4sub system was outlawed by them up top, I have struggled to gain more subs for Nixvir. I will admit I have had to stay away from the subscribers list for that series and its prequel for the sake of my mental health - I never was able to cope whenever a subscriber up and left because I didn’t understand why they left and also because I wanted to use Nixvir as the basis for a large commercial empire. The problem was I relied on the sub4sub system - perhaps to my own detriment - and now that it’s been banned, I don’t know how else to increase my following.
I tried sending PMs to non-artists on the platform and sent them posters designed after the Lord Kitchener Wants You posters of World War I to encourage them to subscribe, but this didn’t work. So I had to distance myself and focus on building up my Instagram following.
I have had to publish Ragnar the Prelude to Nixvir here, despite the fact that I didn’t want to, because I don’t want the readers I do have to lose interest in my work. Lunacy has been doing well, for reasons I don’t understand - after all, it IS a story I came up with on a whim inspired by Over the Moon and The Vile Village, but somehow it’s done well for itself - presently the number of subs is 111 for that series.

The first time this happened to me, I assumed it was bots and kind of had a freak out. But what actually happened was my series got featured. So, I went poking though the old inbox messages and...

Same thing happened for you! Your series was showcased in the New and Noteworthy collection. So, you got a boost in visibility that way, and that led to an influx of subs. Congrats!

Honestly I was thinking it could be bots too but it didn't seem to line up? Thank you for letting me know, I never would have thought to look! I'm still sifting through friends comics so I'm pretty unsure of how the site works for features etc, that's neat though, thanks to whoever did that if they see me here! XD

I came onto the forums with the exact same question 3 years ago lol back then it was being featured on the community page by genre, that doesn't really exist anymore.

I've had more of sudden influx of VIEWS vs subs. I notice it happens when my work gets talked about on some forum, discord server, irl, podcast, etc.

Its most recent spike was when I was interviewed for a thesis by students from one of the top 20 universities in the Philippines

I think one reason might be that your work got featured by the site.
It's also possible that an account with a large following on social media reposted your work.

In any case, congratulations on gaining more subscribers. I've read your comic, and I find the protagonist's setup very interesting.

I thought I recognised you! I've been following you on Youtube for years at this point. It could be that some of your followers got wind of your comic then too :3 that'll help put you at the top of the list.

I have been trying to post skelby in youtube posts too but I don't know if that's getting much click-through,
