Surprising/unusual things you struggle to draw (or just really don't enjoy drawing)

I'm just making this thread out of curiosity. It's not intended as a problem-solving and advice thread by default, more of a "let's chat about art" thread, but of course everyone is more than welcome to ask for advice here. I'm saying this because sometimes when I poke fun at myself some people perceive it as complaining and it's really not intended as that.

With that said, I'm curious - are there any things that aren't generally seen as a Difficult Thing To Draw(TM) like hands and foreshortened action poses, but that you struggle to draw?

For me it's simple short haircuts, especially for men. I know how to do them in theory. I also get pretty close to people's heads at work and have picked up a habit of observing their haircuts for art purposes. And yet ... somehow when I try to draw a man with short hair my brain goes blank and it looks like I've never drawn hair in my entire life. I'm usually not the worst at winging something without reference, but somehow when it comes to short hair my brain loses all of its visual memory. It doesn't help that long hair just looks so much nicer on all genders and it's so much more fun to draw and I love GNC characters and besides, making their hair a little longer would suit their personality and the setting a lot better anyway and ... you get the picture. Pretty much all of my important characters that used to have short(ish) hair have a bisexual bob now.
I know I just need to actually practise this but damn, it's hard to ignore my love for the bisexual bob. XD

What about you? I'm curious.

I second the short haircuts also somehow I always make head look weirdly-shaped with short haircuts, it's a struggle

Another thing for me is trousers. They are always so weird to draw for me. I found out that it's easier if I add more details (pocekts, seams etc), but plain trousers? It's so difficult

Also, bags and backpacks. I practice a lot and still they look weird.
And don't even get me started on any modern technology like phones etc.

Ohh yeah, short string-ish things are totally hard to figure out. Hair, grass, you name it :'D It's like you need strands sticking out towards the screen so the texture looks right but it's so easy to make it look spiky instead of strand-y instead

Other than that, it's noses and lips for me Not sure how unusual this actually is, though I definitely don't see people complain about it as often as hands and foreshortened action poses XD But this is why I will always have a simple style

And I totally get the trousers. I always struggle with the folds when the legs are bent. It's one of those "know it in theory but can't apply the knowledge yet" things. There's a difference between knowing how folds work in general and being able to apply it for every fabric in every pose

@TheLemmaLlama Yeah the strands sticking out towards the screen always get me ... And then how much detail is appropriate? Too much and it looks spiky, too little and it looks like a helmet.
Noses are definitely tricky imo but I feel like many people simplify them for that reason. Same with lips probably. (Laughs in I fucking love drawing noses and lips ...)

LOL the short haircuts for guys got me good bc I was like dang, yeah that does give me trouble when I try. I can do bald, mid, or long, but that well-kept short stuff that's all posh... I just blank. I can do a bowl cut and short chaos though, thanks to my years of drawing Rock Lee & Gaara in the before times hahah.

The original one I was going to post is uh Stairs. Yeah, stairs give me mini fits and they really shouldn't :V.

You ain't Lying Gawd. I was trying to be cute and do one of those art nouveau staircases and after an hour I was like ya should have just gone outside and run around the block, bc you would have been just as fatigued, but at least felt accomplished yeesh.

Idk, whenever I try to draw something, it looks more like something else. Like, I tried to draw a really really rough sketch of a cat to help explain to the artist what I was commissioning, and it turned out to look more like a squirrel. Thankfully the artist understood what I was trying to get at.

Ah, also backgrounds but I'm getting better at them. I do struggle quite a lot with traditional (non-webtoon vertical page) panels. Like what? How do I even composition them?

Edit: F&ck forgot, coloring. I LOATHE coloring and color theory, but it's just something I'm going to have to get used to lmaoo.

I don't like coloring in backgrounds. Like I am fine with making the characters in color but I feel like once I start messing with the BG it ends up looking off. It is one of the main reason why I prefer working in grayscale.

Yes! I hate drawing super short hair. I think I've never given a character a buzz cut for this reason.

Grass is one of my personal enemies. I literally just sketched a scene that I thought had grass for continuity purposes. When I realized there would be dirt there instead, I was so so happy.

And now that I think about it, grass kinda looks like a buzz cut...

Edit: Or not a buzz cut? Idk what you call that hair that's a little longer but still not enough.
