Synopsis Review

I've written a Synopsis for my new novel. What do you guys think? Do you love it or hate it? If you hate it, what needs improvement?

Synopsis: Chalom: Collection of Dreams is an anthology novel of dream sequence scenes unconnected to the plot in this book. Readers will enjoy scenes of personal dream interpretation behind each character's dreams-whether they're sleeping at night or daydreaming. Other than that, please enjoy!

A synopsis is supposed to tell a basic idea of your content. Not expect how audiences will react.

Let me provide mine for an example;

Xeon Strikes. A 12 year old boy who is seemingly human gets into a fight against other bullies who pick on a fellow school student. He displays raw unbelievable strength for one his age and vastly injures the bullies.

The consequences of his actions are suspension, leading his adopted father, Senator Wilson Strikes of California, to tell the truth about his heritage as a Materian from Planet Materia.

Learning the truth about his origin, Xeon takes it upon himself to fight violent predatory criminals with his powers in the hopes of not having Earth, his second home planet, face a similar fate has his true home planet.

As he reaches 18 years old, he looks for comerades that have a strong sense of vigilante justice to empower. Fighting by his side to ensure peace and serenity of Los Angeles, and the entire world.

Wait, of which book? This book? This book contains unrelated scenes unconnected to this book?

The wording here is a little off. Which book are you referring to? The book the synopsis is for or the book the anthology is based off of?

This book is in fact scenes related to the character's dreams but has no plot in it.

Saying “the plot in this book” implies that while there is a plot, the scenes are unrelated to it.

You're better off saying "Chalom: Collection of Dreams is an anthology novel of dream sequence scenes unconnected to the plot of Chalom." Or whatever the title of the original narrative is.

Well no, you could do more to explain why the anthology is worth reading. It's just that one sentence is very confusing. So the scenes are unrelated to the main story, do they have a theme in common? Are they all the same genre or are there reoccurring characters? Really, why would someone enjoy reading your anthology?

A synopsis is actually the major part of the novel.
Before reading your chapter, the audience always check you synopsis.
That's why it's very important to write a catchy synopsis.
If it is too long then the reader would became bored.
There's no problem if it's short but that doesn't mean it can be too short.
If you feel satisfied with your synopsis then let it be.

Does it have to be one exact theme? Cause I'm coming up with seven themes in this slice of life anthology.

Themes can be similar and overlapping, they don'thave to be the same. But seven different themes sound like a lot. I assume there's a lot more freedom with themeing when it comes to an anthology. To be honest I've never written one or really read any.

Well, I thought I could implement seven themes in anthologies but I can't. I can only implement three to five instead and I had to take out two. But here's my updated Synopsis:

Chalom: Collection of Dreams is an anthology novel of dream sequence scenes unconnected to the plot of Chalom. All scenes are slices of life that explore sadness, hope, love, healing and death. This novel will have good and bad dreams and all characters will be different in each scene-whether be sleeping at night or daydreaming. Other than that, please enjoy!

I'd recommend telling the synopsis to your first story you're going to touch on to catch the reader's attention. Saying that it's just a collection of stories could get some people interested but it wouldn't get other potential readers as well. As someone that sometimes stumble upon collections of stories I don't actually mind that the stories aren't connected as long as the chapters/episodes are listed in an understandable way.

Here's an example I think would be interesting for this particular type of series.

Is there a separate novel called Chalom? If yes. this is fine, but if this anthology is a stand alone, this won’t make sense.

I think some of the others are under the impression you are writing an anthology that explores the dreams of characters from a different pre-existing story.

So assuming it’s a stand alone anthology, and not related to some other piece of work, I recommend this rewrite:

Chalom: Collection of Dreams is an anthology novel of dream sequences, each exploring themes of sadness, hope, love, healing and death. This novel will have good and bad dreams and all characters will be different in each scene-whether they be sleeping at night or daydreaming.

You don’t need to specify that they’re unconnected stories or that it’s plotless, as that’s already implied from it being an anthology about different character’s dreams. I did drop out the “slice of life” bit just for simplifying, but you could absolutely work it back in.

So, are you just letting people write your synopsis for you? or are you going to rewrite it yourself? Taking advice is not the same as taking people's edits.
