Tablet Trouble- flat or propped up?

I usually have my tablet (graphical display) propped up on a stand when I'm drawing. However, I've been noticing that my linework always comes out shaky. I tried simply setting the tablet on the desktop instead. This felt more natural as it's how i draw on paper, but my hand did obscure a good bit of the screen.

So, tablet users of tapastic, do you prop up your tablet on a stand or lay it flat?

This is how I work.

I never really liked drawing at a slant, unless I'm oil painting. I'm too used to having my drawing surface flat.

I draw flat, I stated out with my traditional art flat so I kept the same thing when I switched to digital.

I usually keep my tablet flat when I'm using it, but I only use it for coloring and layouts.

I do my line work traditionally and keep my desk on a slight incline:

I've got a cintiq hybrid and these silly black nipples make for a better stand than the stand it comes with. It's low enough not no make much difference and sturdy anough to rest my hand on and rotate my tablet. I used to draw flat but I noticed my drawings would warp to some weird angle and the only way to correct it was to either sit hunched over the table or get a little tilty prop. With this I can sit straight up and not have to tilt my head down.

My hand is also poopy and doesn't work good, so all of my lineart is shaky unless I'm super slow. But it's easier to throw lines on tablet rather than paper because I can set stabilizers and edit lines on my linework.

My setup is something like this:

I use the cintiq almost like an easel, keeping it very upright. It took me a while to get used to the angle and doing steady lines and stuff, but I prefer it this way because it keeps the strain off my neck/shoulders, since I'm sitting upright and not leaning over the tablet.

I keep my lighttable at a similar angle when drawing traditionally, and when I am using an actual easel for paintings, so it's something I'm fairly used to by now.

I have a wacom intuos medium sized tablet. It was designed such that it could be easily taken and used on the go. Holding it makes it feel like a sketch pad, so that's most comfortable for me.

I have a cintiq companion. It came with a really flimsy stand that ive been using but it slips and falls every now and again. The angle and size of the screen itself leaves my arm and back all crumpled up and crampy :s and yeah my lines get all wiggly when it's propped up. After reading this thread, I think I should try laying it flat or pushing my chair back... i usually get better movement in my arm when i draw on flat paper anyway.

I have an Intous 3 tablet, and with that I try to draw as flat as possible, it gets me the most steady lines. With everything else (traditional) I tend to draw on a slant or at an angle.
