Tax Time Depression: When you really see how much you made from writing!

So, this time of the year seems to be a little depressing, because all the 1099s or tax info from your platforms come in for filing taxes. And you get an idea of how much you're really making from your writing. I know a lot of writers that measure it in amounts of cups of coffee you can buy or dinners. LOL There are some writers that make 3-4 figures. Which is more of the reality. Those six figure writers do exist, and they write romance too. But I just haven't made it to that level. But a girl can dream. But I'll take my several cups of coffee. At least, it will help me write more this year.

I made 50 dollars once. I got paid to write for a videogame that was shelved. Now, I make zero money from writing. I'm charged money for my webcomic because I can't draw .... So, I commission two artists and it's expensive but my real job pays them.

Pff, my comic and commission related income is so low it's hardly worth reporting. This is why we have day jobs!

I’ve never written for money, so that’s not depressing. What is depressing is that I sold a vacant property last summer and am going to be nailed for capital gains tax to the tune of about $20k. The property was an inheritance from about 10 years ago. Apparently there is no tax on an inheritance if you sell it within a certain time, but if you wait ten years it’s considered a capital gain.

The little money I get here (it's still a considerable amount of money given my weak currency, but worth nothing as an income) for writing as a hobby is used to fund my other hobby.

I don't think it's even taxable. . . Or is it and I actually have been evading tax this time?
I should get rich then, because evading tax is a classy rich people activity.

Figuring out how much I make from writing is super easy! It's absolutely nothing. Zero is a wonderfully round number, and I don't have to pay taxes on it. Nice!
