I'm no good at volunteering and that's hard to do now anyway. The three charities I support throughout the year have lost many of their volunteers so I do what I can.
Fortunately the trip was still in the planning stages. So I hadn't bought any tickets. Usually I try to buy tickets in January so I can have them paid off by when I go (I usually travel in December although Mongolia needs to be earlier).
I'm a big C-drama fan and try to keep up with what's being filmed etc. and I noticed in Sept - Dec of 2019 that things were getting cancelled and I saw a few things about sickness so by Jan I stopped planning because I figured something really big was coming down the pike.
Then a friend was headed to a teaching gig in Vietnam and it got cancelled. Instead of flying west (we're in Seattle) she went through Europe first and got "stranded" in Paris. I say "stranded" because she has family there so she stayed there and taught long distance. By the time February rolled around I was buying cat supplies (no toilet paper, I'm not part of that mess) and basically supplies for the year figuring lockdown would be a long long time.
In March I shut down the ebay business. I deal in vintage and antique jewelry and there was no way I was going to be hitting the estate sales, actually I'd stopped going to them in February.
At first my friends all told me I was nuts. Yeah, like a squirrel in September.
