Honestly, as I've said before, I have a very black-and-white view on the issue. As in I don't really see anything great from it, but nothing bad either. I'm just really indifferent about it, I guess u o u
I do agree that longform comics don't belong in a daily feed, whether it's Best New Webcomics or renamed to "Best New Gag Comics" or whatever, just because it comes down to an issue of context - you can't just pick up and read a longform story, because that's something you have to actually sit down and pay attention to, aside from a gag comic, which you can just pick up, read, and resume with whatever it was you were doing.
But I don't think longform comics are being completely ignored either like some folks who've raised that issue. Tapastic still appreciates and promotes the longform stories we have through means of the front page banner, their various collections (ex. Manga Madness, Tales of Adventure, World of Webtoons, Drop Dead Gorgeous, etc.) so I think it's unfair to say Tapastic "doesn't care" about longform stories just because they don't make it into BNW, because there's a lot more to Tapastic than that.
As for my own comics, the -only- reason Time Gate: Reaper (my only longform story) got big so fast was because I had -already established a fanbase- through my first comic, Uzuki, which is gag-a-day. I highly doubt it would have anywhere near the subscribers it has today without the aid of Uzuki's readers migrating to Time Gate (and I know I'm not the only person who's done that before; switching from gag to story). So I just had that backbone to help establish my own series, and it still doesn't have a lot of subs in comparison to some of the other amazing stories we have here.
So I feel that if someone doesn't have that backbone like I did and the luck of having a readership already, and can't be in BNW for whatever reasons (again, context reasons) then they just need to try a bit harder to gain their readers instead of sitting around and expecting Tapastic to give them a fanbase. Making webcomics never -was- like that and it -still- isn't like that no matter how great Tapastic is, and I feel like people tend to forget that and expect their series to explode overnight and be featured everywhere at the drop of a hat and a couple pages.
I don't know if Tapastic has any way to improve the issue though because really, as I've said before, I don't see it as an "issue" to begin with. Once again, it all boils down to "My comic isn't popular enough, I blame the design of the site for not giving it the highlights I think it deserves!".
If stuff like that keeps happening, Tapastic will never actually improve, because people are never satisfied.
