I don't mind comparisons as long as it's, like you said, "it sounds like ____, it's nice to see more of this". It's genuine since none of us are the special original creator™, and we DO have things that have inspired our styles, decisions, aesthethic, etc. It's how humans work.
That being said, I really dislike when people become REALLY pushy as if they have decided what inspired YOU to make the comic. I once had a tabling experience where this person kept telling me a character design I have was inspired by a character from a popular show right now.
I told them, yes, I love said show, and I love said character, but the design and story came first. And they actually went "nnno, I'm sure you were inspired by it".
But that's mostly someone deciding for me what worked on something personal. But other than that, comparisons can be okay if worded respectfully. Hell, if it's true, then there's a topic you guys can talk about: the love for said show, game, music, etc.!
