YEP!.. i said it!
and i have to write this topic because it's something that keeps bothering me way more than it should, and i need to get it off my chest.. which is that browsing Tapastic's main-page on both pc and mobile is "B O R I N G" and that needs to change IMO & ASAP, and here's why..
since i got here less than a month ago, and i had a lot of time only "checking" Tapastic's main-page, because by only checking.. i get the opportunity to generally catch what's going on in this realm of the internet, it tells my a lot about diverse art-styles, subjects and most importantly, i get to know awesome creators
in fact, i tweeted yesterday a picture of the site's main page mentioning how BL Romance is almost dominating the main-page and that 'am so proud and happy for all the LGBTQ community to see such enrichment happens to their body of literature, art and culture (yaay!)
when i started publishing my comic, it got featured 2-3 days after in the Staff Picks (trillion thanks, Staff btw).. things were cool regarding views and subs.. really really cool and my first milestone was achieved in a reasonable period of time, but for a couple of days now 'am no longer there in the Staff Picks and my numbers went * POOOF* since.. what happened?
yes i get slightly better views/subs on updating days, but still not good enough, and don't want this topic to be thought of as a way of saying "'am frustrated, 'am on the verge of abandoning ARTE!, and i need free attention" not at all, because i've some beautiful die-hard readers who really care about my comic and its progress and interact with me all the time (which i think is the most important thing about making art in general), and in return, i won't abandon them because of some stupid dead numbers on some stupid stat board!
PHEW with that off the way, i get to write about the topic itself now
First, the Fresh section needs to be placed at the top below the Spotlight and above Popular with a horizontally movable slid tab instead of the bland page-based view in the Fresh section at the very bottom (which has to be clicked to open), i don't know how that is gonna be executed in the mob format though, but creators need those fragments of seconds of exposure.. it will pay off big time
i tried to send this feedback but found someone who actually suggested that before, and Staff answered them that they can't do that due to some protection stuff and the look of the main page would be ruined.. well, this needs to be fixed then, cuz it really is annoying to have to scroll all the way down to the end to open another page to see fresh update.. it gives the impression that the main page is only for the Popular and Trends and the rest are just armature nerds stuck in the Pits of Oblivion
Second, i have no problem with Popular comics and i think no one should cuz it's "determined by the fans" (not by publishing houses like in the traditional comics scene) and we have to accept that some "stuff" wows people way better than other ones and that those creators aren't lazy(*), their comics are popular for a reason.. this is how the world works, it's not a high school
(* this is a topic that 'am willing to cover in detail in the future)
BUT
i can't get my head around how Daily Snack works, this should be something made by Staff to give a day-long-exposure chance to obscure comics, still i see comics in DS that already enjoy 20K+ subs and are already there in the Popular section, sometimes, the same comic gets featured more than once in 2 different days and sometimes i see comics that are already in the Spotlight!!
if this is an automated thing, then it needs to be picked up manually instead, if it's manually already, then someone please explain to me the criteria used to do so
i work really hard on my comic and 'am super happy 'bout it. i update it twice a week, with 4 full-colored pages per update.. so, i finish 8 pages a week and 'am beating my ass to turn this into a full-time job, and 'am 150% sure things will get better by time, cuz 'am quite confident and self-aware about my own art, how people receive it and its place among the whole scene
and know that comics take time to get known ('ve been makin them babies for 8 years before my latest and most recent one)
that's why i feel a bit.. "Meh" about the main-page and Daily Snack as well
that's it, i just wanted to get this off my chest, now i can go back to work on my comic in peace...
