The Mystery of the New Tapas App

Now, a lot of us here on the forums (or anyone on the newsletter mailing list) may have heard of the new Tapas app that is in production. However, we know almost nothing about it!

(Now before any of the moderators say anything, I just want to put this out there: this is a hypothetical post!)

So basically, I wanted to discuss what everyone THINKS will come out of the new app, about what new or unknown features it might have, or maybe your own theories on how the "keys" and "coins" work.

Basically this is a post where we can playfully theorize what the app will do:
Based on the info that we have been given;
Or perhaps something out of left field that it might not do, but would be nice if it did;
Or maybe something totally out there, or a bit impractical

This is a post where we can be fellow conspiracy theorists. We should be not be trying to influence the staff in what they're already doing, just trying to decipher the clues we've been given. Just for fun.

i expect more goodness that my eyes will shine in how cool it would look like

but im more hype at the novel (or book) section, and probably some new premium comics as well

I think it's gonna be pretty neat. The community is def going to get a lot bigger after it's released considering it's also going to be open ti writers and not just comic creators anymore. Which I think will be pretty cool and open up some new publishing possibilities, like releasing short stories about current comics on the side.

I think the coins system will be like most apps. Tempt you with the offer of "coins" if you submit to their brainwashing videos watch their ads.

Keys are going to be something different though. I know certain comics are going to only be seen by using these keys since I know a creator I follow on dA is going to be taking down her comic because it's going to become a tapas exclusive. Which is interesting to know. I wonder if there's going to be some kind of deal similar to webtoons where certain creators can submit stories that are "keys only" and get paid to keep it going.

Oh man, I didn't even think about the possibility of short stories connected to webcomic series! That's a really cool little promotional tool artists can use to elaborate on characters' pasts, memories, world theories, thought processes... you could totally fly with something like that.

The first thing that came to mind was the little side stories you unlock in VN games -- they usually don't have any visuals (other than a static drawing of a simple theme) and focus on inner monologues or deeper narrative about a specific moment.

I'm so glad you mentioned that about the potential of the novel/short story community potential! So looking forward to this new mobile app! Now to get a mobile that supports APPS. X]

Lol yeah, I'm looking forward to the short story aspect/possibility of Tapas. I know I have a lot of short story ideas that can be added on to my current comic and would be so fun to work on as side projects. It would be an amazing tool to add onto the world building of your comic. Plus give everyone those little inside scoops that you can't quite get with visuals.
