I decided to try out this trend on a whim last night. Spent a couple of hours but they genuinely took way less time than my usual drawings. Either way, here are Sasaki and Kira as the Barbie and Ken jail trend, Capt. Miura is definitely ending them both.

It's that time again. I'm going to try to get through Kaijune again this year.

Kaijune Day 1: Digital

Just thumbnailing the second episode of Superwoman: Code Oblivion. It’s still a ways away, but I saw a few announcements on Twitter and Instagram regarding shows I anticipate this year that gave a sudden boost of motivation again. Although I’m not entirely sure what to make of what’s happening to Superwoman in this sketch. Nothing screams agony more than hair swooshing in every direction. Perhaps you guys can enlighten me 🤷‍♂️.

Part 1 of my daily 5 minutes sketches.
The 1950s style one took me longer than 5 minutes but it was the most fun,
the cool thing about this practice is that it gives me the possibility to try a lot
of styles and get ideas for future designs.

I´ll do my theory lessons now

Next week I will be at the german north sea from monday to saturday,
I have to think about a good drawing project for that time

People: so.... Beleard, huh
My inner 16 y.o. goth:

I Can’t promise this won’t be my last snot-in-hair picture (good lord, what have I become?) but has anyone tried drawing the mixed emotion of being grossed out, embarrassed, but also laughing at yourself in the same drawing? It’s been a journey, folks.

@DanielRKM this sure sounds like an experience I wouldn't want to go through xD amazingly done!

Getting the pencils started for a small watercolor as a gift my parents... hoping to finish it before they get here next weekend :see_no_evil:.

@AmazementComics She was crying, saw her girlfriend, tried to play it cool, and accidentally wiped snot in her hair. Devastating.

@Kelheor Thank you! (especially since your emotion-work is (chef's kiss). Also, is there no "chef's kiss" emoji?!?!?!)

@migxmeg This is so lovely and sweet. It's going to be awesome, I can't wait.

Humble Brag alert: So I was trying to find a mostly unused sketchbook for my weekend trip to Chicago (CAKE!) and I found my old thumbnails/first sketches of Monkey Bunny. I am horrified both horrified and charmed by them (but more charmed since my first 2-page spread/splashpage was an awkward hug). Journey back with me to 2018...

Evan Pettiwhisker from Ni No Kuni II.
Another prtactice drawing from a game that I am playing. Frakly, its the best for practices purpose draw whatever game I am playing, don't know why I didn't try it before =P

Anyway, about the second picture, do you have knowledge of any book, or internet page where its taught how to do character designs for 'normal people', as in, present clothing? Because most of the material I have found is very educating, but always tends to go into fantasy design, wich is easyer because its exagerated and doesn't follow more canons that the ones you create, but on normal clothing, and appearances, how do you do it? I know that those same books of design, once I apply the notions told on them I should be able to do something like a 'normal person', but I really think that this is more connected with fashion design than fantasy =P

Anyone have ideas?

@Aleksei I stink'n love your game-inspired art. For the normal people references, A few places to check out would be clothing catalogs (brands or stores that fit the aesthetic you're looking for), stock photos websites (searching for the type of people you're doing), and maybe follow some photographers on social media who take slice of life pictures from their neighborhoods/environments

Yeah, I kind of trained a pinterest account with those motives in mind. It does magic at having something fresh to look always, but a book would be a great addition for my collection too =P
I am sorry, I am a bit technichal in my processes so I am always searching for a step by step for dummys books to help me get to the 'oh, so this is how its done' in my brain.

Haven't posted here in a bit, but been keeping up and loving everyone's works on here! I've been shy to post but here's a couple of sketches I've done today–second one featuring @Legendofgenii @Aeroyeen and @aqua03 's OCs in order. :blush:

i got a little silly idea for new buisness cards for future conventions - sort of fortune telling/tarot card vibes with some positive vibes/messages on one side and my info on the other :sparkles:

About you asking for "present clothing" character design... All you gotta do is observe modern wear. And you can dress your characters up as you please. The reason why character design classes go more into scifi and fantasy garb is because it is all based off of the entire history of fashion--they also go over functionality of clothing and accessories, because that is important to understand and convey in design (ie why Aragorn wears a shirt that can have its sleeves detached--because he's a ranger, that's all he wears, so if it's hot out he can take his sleeves off or use them for something else easily.)

Personally, as someone who is into fashion, you should really check out fashion history. It would give reason to the today's fashion that you're talking about. "Fashion isn't an island, it's a response." -- incredibly important to remember. I highly suggest a string of short-form lecture videos by Professor Amanda Hallay called Ultimate Fashion History.1 If you like fashion and want to learn more about it, it's best to start with a fundamental knowledge of attire and its purpose. And she's really great in the videos! She makes it fun. :}

There's also a great book called Adorned in Dreams. It's honestly my favorite thing to read. An excellent analysis on fashion history, sex and gender, and classism.

Another way to go about it, if you're not too keen on fashion as a hobby, I highly suggest to look into the fundamental folds. Then observe clothes you like that are on people--draw them that way with the volumes in mind. Apply your observations for when you are clothing your characters. It really helps to solidify your knowledge, and not just copy aimlessly. So keep that in mind! I hope this is all somewhat helpful.
Here is part 1 of a video series by ModernDayJames on clothing folds. This video really helped me a lot to use for when I observe attire. :}

Thank you very much for all that insight!
I have search for some fashion books, but I really didn't know where to start looking, so I never read any of them xD (I have some PDF that I should give it a try, though).
I gonna check the videos, for sure!

Also, I remembered a thing that I do when I want a 'normal clothing' for a random character scene. I go to YouTube and search for any city and year walking tours. I check on the people's clothing, think if those would go with the characters style choice, and do some minimal changes if needed.

Now I only need to find the time to apply myself to do all that, but it can't be helped, haha!
Thanks again! =D

Jed likes dogs :cry_01: I wish there were more opportunities to draw them, every comic need some sweet sweet doggos.

Been a bit since I posted. Never realized I didn't put up the colored version of this.

@KSlinger omg yes, it would be awesome to see more good bois and girls :cry_01: today is a happy day to have them from you and @Legendofgenii :heart_02:

@IndigoShirtProd the lines and color are so sharp and clean I will be glad to cut myself over this piece xD :two_hearts: beautiful!

@MerrowBros oh, this guy would make a fantastic pokemon :grinning: :sparkles:

Meg! So good hearing from you and I'm so happy to hear your Carpal tunnel has left the building! Welcome back!!!!

@Lensing don't know when you're leaving, but I hope you have a great productive week, a lot of rest and good time! :grinning:

I´m leaving tomorrow, I haven´t packed anything yet, didn´t fill up the car and didn´t
clean my place :smiley: I´m super tired from band rehearsal and the show at the biker club garage
yesterday, we played 5 hours outside and I´m sunburned.

Some guy from the US came to me after the concert and said to me that I move and look like the villain
from a Bruce Willis movie. I don´t see it myself but by bandmembers said that I do move like that
sometimes. I´m insulted :smiley:

@Lensing don't forget to apply your aloe gel then xD

Productivity, muthafoka
As in, no sketches except the real deal

@Legendofgenii Bruno best doggo. <3
@Kelheor Absolutely in wonder at how you're able to create the sense of a whole composition with just a few strokes. :heart_03: Their expressions, too. :joy:

Wanted to draw some happy stuff for character study today. Ended up with a very sad scientist instead.

@wispysing It’s funny isn’t it. I find when I’m sad feeling down I’ll actually draw wholesome happy things (to cheer myself up I suppose?). I can only work on the sad or scary stuff when I’m in a cheerful mood. :sweat_smile:
