Honestly I don't mind an extremely feminine character, I've never had many problems with them.
But i do think the damsel in distress kind of trope can be frustrating to many because there is not much else to that character other then they are beautiful, but very weak and their only purpose in the plot is to be saved. There can be more to the character then that. Do they have a strong/kind/ interesting personality? Are they smart? Do they have other skills that make them stand out? A character doesn't have to be strong to be interesting.
On the other hand, purely strong, cold, and heroic female characters with no flaws are just as frustrating, because they also have no nuance, no character. This is somehow what a strong female character is supposed to be.
Femininity does not equal weak.
such as
Masculine does not equal strong.
You can have a beautiful traditionaly feminine character that can be strong, confident, but also caring, motherly. She can be a powerful warrior but she will also have moments of weakness, personality flaws and that is okay.
In fact a character of mine, Lilith is a very feminine character, yet a powerful witch.
She wears her hair long, dresses more on the feminine side, but she is often more powerful than some of her male companions. At the same time she is also weak.
She carries guilt in her for failing those she cares about, she lets her emotions sway her judgement at times, she also carries a great sorrow of being unable to start a family/ have children of her own.
She is still a powerful female figure, yet I believe it it is her times of weakness/vulnerability that makes her more relate able.
I think it would be sad if as artists/writers we couldn't write these types of female characters as no woman is the same. Some are more traditionally feminine some are not, and that is okay.
As long is there is different types of female representation I don't mind.
