I have a quick tip for creating elaborate cover text for those of us who do not draw and letter by hand. Specifically, I am going to compare how to do this in LibreOffice Writer and OpenOffice Writer.
LibreOfficer is my go-to software for most applications, and I do all of my editing in LibreOffice Writer. This software suite was created by some of the same folks who made OpenOffice but after there was a falling out. I cannot recommend it enough. One thing that Libre doesn't do as well as Office, however, if font artwork. Here is a title which I created in Libre using the best techniques that I know and interesting (free) fonts designed for comic creators.
I think that looks pretty darn good for a word processor program. I cannot adjust the colors nor the size of that shadow effect to really make the letters pop, but it's very quick to put together if I know where to find the commands. This was made using the Mars Police font and about five minutes...
