It was honestly the best decision I every made! You definitely want to do your research, as there are a lot of places that advertise very affordable options but often botch the surgery. My eye doctor actually recommend the surgeon to me that ended doing my procedure.
There are many different types - but the two main ways are either cutting into the cornea (lasik) or burning (prk) into the cornea. The healing process is drastically shorter for Lasik ( I was cleared to drive the next day and was already seeing 20/20) where as prk usually requires a longer healing period ( a month to a few months I believe).
The procedure itself was fairly short - I believe it was about 15 minutes start to finish and I was awake the whole time. The worst part was actually smelling the laser burn into my eye. There are a lot of eye drops for the first few days to help with healing but after that it becomes a lot more manageable.
I have some increased light sensitivity now and I experience some glare at night but it really doesn't bother me. The benefits out way the cons! I am still in aww of how much detail I can see now - it honestly feels like I went from 144p to 4k
