That's exactly it. Young black people getting shot. Too common, sadly. Rio is kind of warzone for a while now, it feels even worse since they impeached our president in what was a clear cut coup. Favelas are a fucking warzone, poor communities are being, as they say, ''pacified'', which is a mixture of gentrification and a goddamn extermination campaign.
(That's not to say that favelas don't need social help, they certainly do, and I speak as an outsider, no way for me to know what goes on inside. That said, militar intervention is common knowledge here)
The councilwoman belonged to our only left-wing party of expression. She was executed right after a event she attended, a conversation about young black women and social change. From what I saw, she was an active voice of help inside these communities. It's just a horror show.
One can only hope. I feel like maybe things will heat up now.
