I only sleep 8 hours when I've either been unusually physically active or when I've been awake unusually long.
Otherwise I sleep 7 and that's just it. The body stops it right there and any sleep beyond that will not be quality sleep.
My cat has been fucking my sleep up lately though.
Also most media published science is pretty unreliable since science today is a wild west where factchecking gets no funding and recognition and money is most easily earned by cashing in on stuff that upsets people or gets them talking. (One big reason I don't entirely believe in the anti-sugar panic going on right now, especially considering it was carbs before sugar and before that, fat was the devil.) It seems like the gist of today is to take everything with a grain of salt and figure out what works for you.
