Not to downplay this but it's worth noting that Discord isn't the first or only platform to add these kinds of features. Way back when it was Facebook requiring photo ID to verify your account. Nowadays you've got platforms like Roblox, Youtube and now Discord joining a new bandwagon of face scanning or requiring photo id's for age verification.
This also ties into wider political movements pushing what is basically mass surveillance in the name of "protecting kids" or keeping people safe, which is mostly a lie since other harms to children or the general public remain unaddressed. This is why people have been vocal in opposition and encouraging folks to get in contact with their government representatives where able whether that's congress, senate, state reps, parliament and other governing bodies with the ability to do something about these kinds of legislative decisions.
I'm not sure who or what those would be in Australia since I'm in the US but I'm sure there are resources out there to point you in the right direction. I know folks in the EU have been trying to point to how it's potentially in violation of the GDPR i think it's called, though there's also been attempts to weaken it so that these kinds of measures can be added to sites and apps. So if anything it'll be a matter of raising awareness at the least and then seeking out alternatives alongside speaking up against it not just online but through actual action like contacting political leaders, even if that means only being able to leave a message for phone calls or sending emails. I do think its worth emphasizing that folks cancel their nitro subscriptions or other paid plans that go to discord since money is one of the few things they (or any other company) actually do pay attention to. But yeah no denying how annoying it is to keep seeing this stuff....
