I joined the contest. I've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. I only have 12 subscribers for my current strip and I'm using ideas I had planned already anyway. Going from 6 to 12 panels to tell a joke will be a challenge but here's hoping they'll be good. Check it out if you'd like. https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/the-fatman-by-jaime-muñoz/list?title_no=19139337
That's not how I read the rules, I think @theyaoiarmy is in the right. It doesn't say you have to update or change anything to qualify. If they meant a "new" series they wouldn't call it RE-uploading.
Agreed. I don't see what difference changing the name would do in a realistic sense, it would be a completely inept rule if that was the case.
You either allow re-uploading or you don't. You don't just go and allow re-uploading but only if you change the name!!!!111
Makes no sense and no difference in fairness to other contestants.
The level of audience engagement takes into consideration factors such as comments and likes relative to the consistency and duration of the series.
We aim to foster a spirit of friendly competition. We will not tolerate any form of abuse, whether its intention is to harass creators or gain a competitive advantage.
Found this part of the FAQ interesting. Don't really know what the second part would be addressing other than the rating system. Though I expect it means that if you get caught causing trouble Webtoon will eliminate you from the competition probably.
For the first part, think they'll consider the time before the re-upload of an already established comic as a part of its duration? I also wonder what this means for the recommended section. If they showcase comics eligible for the competition would that not be considered favoritism on their part? sigh I'm just trying to think of things people will probably complain about. At the end of the day, guess that's why "audience engagement" is only 40%, so that the judges can focus on quality rather than making this a popularity contest.
allowing old webtoons to be reupload to enter the contest is fair game to me, I mean, webtoon allow old comics from everywhere else to enter, so why not? Re-uploading an older comic is good and webtoon will let them be qualified to enter but honestly I don't think webtoon will even consider these to be winners. This contest is in my opinion to find new comics to feature because they already featured all the ones they want, now the ones left, they don't want to feature, so they do this to find new ones. Re-entering an old comic can be done but I see this as a waste of time, if they didn't feature your comic already, they won't make you the winner for the same comic to feature you. No offense to anyone using an older comic but the result is pretty obvious. Unless of course your purpose is for traffic and views or other things, then it could be worth it.
I agree with @AllisonGal. And if I may add, it seems that some people arent paying attention to some of the important requirements: 'Most Feels, Laughs, Epic and Gripping' are downright unconsidered when people reupload or upload their pre-made works... I'm guessing these were the most important factors and we should aim to what we choose to aim IMO.
I'm trying to enter the 'Most Epic' and I really have a hard time coming up with a story myself.
I never had any intentions of joining the contest but once again, the issues of the toxic behavior of LINE once again shows its ugly face. This is why I stopped using LINE as often as I did because I'm stick and tired of these entitled brats on the site. It's a shame because I know that there are actually decent people on there, but that decency is absolutely ruined by the sheer toxic atmosphere of the site.
The lack of a real community, creator control and the sheer anonymity honestly makes LINE a pain in the rear end. I think its a darn shame that a site like LINE can be so toxic and really, so half-baked in terms of design, but it remains one of if not the most popular hosting site on the web.
For the rest of you entering the contest, good luck but to me, I'd much rather LINE focus on improving it's community and site than doing contests. Improvements mind you that would be very easy to make. Until then, this isn't a competition, this is a warzone.
This is an all out death battle, where little 13 year old Cindy is using her black magic to curse 15 year old Tina who has just found and slit the throat of 12 year old Robert who was in the middle of holding Lina's parent's hostage who was just about to snipe Cindy from her window.
Again, it's a shame that such extreme toxic behavior exists. A closer knit community could easily allow for friendly competition, supporting and bouncing off one another. Instead it's kill or be killed.
Yep, the fact that comments are basically faceless people without even a profile pic gives them so much power to say anything without repercussions.
I got a comment throwing tasteless insults at me bc my MC used a "vegan blood substitute"... like why.
However, Discover creators going to HeroCon get to fill out this survey that includes these questions
So maybe this means they're trying to see what the creators want now?
I think it's weird that they say creators who attend HeroCon should fill out the survey. Every creator on Discover should be filling out that survey (Just don't answer the questions with the convention or click 'I won't be attending HeroCon')
You find the survey by clicking the bottom picture of this entry btw: https://www.webtoons.com/en/tiptoon/lozolz/webtoon-x-charlotte-heroescon/viewer?title_no=1268&episode_no=2618
Awkward that they didn't promote it a bit better since it sounds so HeroCon exclusive
Also, I'm always baffled about the claims of the toxic environment on Webtoons. I have the most sweetest readers there. I get a troll only once every so often. But most folks are really neat. I don't know if the nasty users come once you are exposed enough or if I'm just a real lucky potato
It could come down heavily on what genre you're in and the type of comic you make. For instance, I've never had a single comment refer to 'shipping', but others I've chatted to say their comments are flooded with it.
I also know someone who writes a vampire story and has nasty battles going on in their comments section between people who want it to be more like their idea of what a vampire story is and what the author is actually writing.
I'm like you though, my readers are almost exclusively positive, and have been continuously improving my rating year after year.
