Yep, the fact that comments are basically faceless people without even a profile pic gives them so much power to say anything without repercussions.

I got a comment throwing tasteless insults at me bc my MC used a "vegan blood substitute"... like why. :worried:

However, Discover creators going to HeroCon get to fill out this survey that includes these questions

So maybe this means they're trying to see what the creators want now?

I've def emailed asking about some of those things.... I'm pretty sure the reply was always "It's impossible"

but maybe they finally hired a web designer who knows what they're doing?

I think it's weird that they say creators who attend HeroCon should fill out the survey. Every creator on Discover should be filling out that survey (Just don't answer the questions with the convention or click 'I won't be attending HeroCon')
You find the survey by clicking the bottom picture of this entry btw: https://www.webtoons.com/en/tiptoon/lozolz/webtoon-x-charlotte-heroescon/viewer?title_no=1268&episode_no=2618
Awkward that they didn't promote it a bit better since it sounds so HeroCon exclusive

Also, I'm always baffled about the claims of the toxic environment on Webtoons. I have the most sweetest readers there. I get a troll only once every so often. But most folks are really neat. I don't know if the nasty users come once you are exposed enough or if I'm just a real lucky potato

It could come down heavily on what genre you're in and the type of comic you make. For instance, I've never had a single comment refer to 'shipping', but others I've chatted to say their comments are flooded with it.

I also know someone who writes a vampire story and has nasty battles going on in their comments section between people who want it to be more like their idea of what a vampire story is and what the author is actually writing.

I'm like you though, my readers are almost exclusively positive, and have been continuously improving my rating year after year.

I think I'm more scared to get a harsh comment than a 1* rate, or even a stupid comment saying that my comic is not original, that they saw a movie/serie/game/anime that has exact the same story or art style, things like these can hurt every artist feelings

Hope the heat get colder next month hm
I'm going to upload another comic serie, totally different from my currently comic

Saw some mixed up discussion about the rules on Webtoon contest so I’m just chiming in real quick! My friend did ask about existing discovered series directly to webtoon and this is the response:

As long as you upload it as a new series, you are in! Hope that clears thing up a bit and here wishing luck to whoever joining. Don’t let the comments and rating get to you!

I think it'd clear up a lot of confusion if they also got rid of the ability to mark an already existing(prior to June 11) series as a contest entry. Why that option is even available is pretty dumb if you ask me.

Yeah that option is kinda dumb because we all know they won't consider those for winning. Now many comics will just enter their old comic a second time and so many comics will have duplicates and it'll be confusing for new readers or a pain in the ass for regular readers as well, very unnecessary. But not allowing this would speak volume about webtoon agenda to lure great comics from tapas so they gotta do this to hide their intentions.

Anyway, this contest is a big mess, especially when we don't even know who are the comics who are entering and we have to click every single comics that updates to really find out. They should make a tab or a section only for the comics entering the contest.

Just a simple tag like this on Discover would be amazing. (BTW, this is on my dashboard. I don't think it be that hard to implement.)

Does anyone know if you're able to enter more than one story in the contest? I know it's only one win per user, but I don't remember seeing anything that said a user could only enter one thing in the contest. Unless I misread, which could very well be the case...

I kinda agree though I get frustrated trying to find other contest entries since there is no way to know for sure (only the author outright telling they're entering is the sure way). I did see people saying they're entering though while putting up "covers" as episodes and as far as I understood they want you to only post full episodes so...?

I think it’s ok. As far as I understood it you can’t enter the same comic over and over again. But if you have several different comics which qualify you can enter them.

That’s true. I can imagine that the genre and the type of comic can dictate how much trouble you attract in the comments, even though you don’t have anything evil in mind.
I have established couples (so no ship wars), no politics or social commentary, neither do I address any serious issues which could trigger bad emotions or such. On top of that I’m not that popular, so folks who just want to troll out of spite and jealousy probably don’t even know I exist (let’s hope it stays that way xD)

The worst comment I got so far was a dude who called us stupid when we published a Q&A about our work process. But compared to what I read here about other’ experiences, that’s pretty petty stuff.

Oh....interesting...I think I just got hit with the whole down-voting thing on Webtoons and I'm not part of the contest :stuck_out_tongue: Would've had to have gotten around 20 downvotes to knock my rating down that much :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the clear up Michi!
Also I think I'm going crazy but I'm re-reading the rules again and again, and did they...? Change this part?

i was so sure it used to say "no previous existing discover titles allowed, but spin offs and etc allowed" also "self published works also not allowed" and so forth? I can't find this anywhere on the rules, or I glossed over it...

They must've removed that. I remember that part too.
They probably got a lot of mails about it and decided to revise that part

Hmp I don’t think they ever said no previous existing discover series allowed. If anything I was sure it’s more along the line of “currently existing discover series isn’t allowed to be submitted but you will need to reupload it as a brand new series.” My friend was confused about that too tho so she emailed them and they clarified (in the screenshot I provided) there is no need for you to even take down the currently existing comic on discover, just resubmit it as a brand new series. Or that’s what I gathered.

Also maybe they did change some wording to avoid confusion?

I just saw their tweet they posted 4 hours ago that they updated their FAQ8 LOL ok so I'm not going crazy then.
Thanks for the help on clarification!!

Not joining it. I got enough on my plate with my webcomic AND my printed series...plus, I'm trying to get MORE free time to try to see if I can roll out something on my Patreon at the end of the year.
