I really think part of the reason the most gripping category gets less views than any of the others is that none of the genres inside the category are immediately visible on the discovery page and you need to click to open more categories. I got way more views for my earlier webtoon that is in the f…

I kinda agree though I get frustrated trying to find other contest entries since there is no way to know for sure (only the author outright telling they're entering is the sure way). I did see people saying they're entering though while putting up "covers" as episodes and as far as I understood the…

Hiyah! I've been working on my comic Star Whisperer for almost two years now and I've gotten all kind of interesting feedback on it. I've been criticised for pacing issues and for some scenes being confusing but people hardly ever point out what is confusing or why and as the author those issues are…

I tend to just use my storyboards as the initial sketch I start working off of, for some pages my storyboards can be rather detailed (the example page is one of those) and sometimes there is just a bunch of circles with letters on them indicating which character is which. [image] [image] [im…

I mostly get the same compliment for Star Whisperer that I usually get for my art in general mostly when someone stumbles across my work for the first time; the art style seems to be cool and unique when people end up commenting on it. I have put a lot of effort in developing my style to work for th…

I have been drawing comics since I learned how to write (had been drawing even before that) so finding my first ever comic could be a tricky thing to do but here have a couple of the really old ones when I was actually taking comics seriously already. The pages are in Finnish 'cause I've only been…

Just one thing comes to mind at the moment but it irks me to noooo end: People putting their characters in kimonos/yukatas/judogis and putting the right side of the garment on top when the character is a normal living person. I could possibly live with it if it was done to imply that the character i…

I don't have any tabletop rpg experience in the past but after planning and fixing timetables for almost a year we finally got to start our tabletop rpg a couple of weeks ago and even though everyone was kinda clumsy with the play since we are not that well adjusted to the rules yet it was a ton of …

As long as the characters stay recognizable hairstyle changes are okay in my books. Though since fiction kinda works a little different from real life I would really strongly advocate to questioning the reasons you are chancing character designs.Just getting bored of a characters hair or finding …

I've always kinda felt that the speech bubbles are part of the comic art in a way...? I always start each panel with the words I'm gonna have and place the character art accordingly. This has gotten even easier since I started lettering the pages by hand so my dialogue sketch is actually an accurate…

I'm one of those people who absolutely cannot work on two comics publicly at the same time. As a teenager I used to have as many as 4 different projects at a time and each of them got like 20 pages before dying out. Now that I keep myself from launching another comic I have the time and energy to fo…

This so much! I read comics on a laptop, I'm not gonna tolerate your 2000 x 2000 pixel PANELS. If the whole panel doesn't fit on the screen at once then what is the point? Other than the "ugh these pages are unreadable by format" -syndrome I just go for interesting and expressive art styles most…

Yeah it can get pretty weird how much people obsess over their subscriber counts. I've come from Smackjeeves to Tapastic and I kinda feel like it's easier to get randomly spotted on Tap so I'm not complaining. I also think that it's not only matter of how long your comic has been up on the site bu…

Yeah you could definitely cut down on the smallest details in the backgrounds. I don't think there is any way to get that to print properly either unless you're going to print huuuuge pages. Amazing job on the details though!

I don't think the image posted by the op looks bad either...? Yeah, there is a LOT of details so you're always gonna lose some of that when resizing but other than that it does look fine.

I started hand lettering on my current comic and I'm pretty sure I have to redo some of the writing in the first couple of pages at least at some point but I was inspired by a fellow comic artist's thoughts on hand lettering and since I don't usually have that much dialogue it's actually easier to e…

I've learned to to plan my comics as two page spreads from all the years of reading printed comics. I still kinda dislike reading large amount of pages on the screen when flipping through a book feels so much more relaxing (and I know this sounds really weird considering I've done webcomics for well…

I really like WebcomicRelief for...possibly semi-obvious reasons. And 4k followers is not nearly enough! I like many critique channels anyway but a topic that is related to something I actually do myself and can offer new angles to storytelling and stuff is really interesting! Go and check him out y…

I just switched my series icon from a half body shot to a more dynamic facial shot of the main character (taken straight out of the comic because I happened to like the panel) and it does seem like a more dynamic avatar could be pulling more views as I update since I've gotten new subs with both upd…

My Comic Star Whisperer has all LGBT+ main cast, though the story hasn't gone that far yet but gets updated two pages a week for now. [image] [image]

As far as I can tell building an audience with sexual content is slightly easier than many other topics but at the end it seems to almost limit the audience the story is capable of reaching. The most popular stories don't usually revolve around sex, the advertising can take advantage of sexual under…

I don't think the technique used for the art makes a huge difference. It is true that coloring comics digitally can easily be eye-catching and such but at least for me personally black & white comics have advantages that colored ones can be lacking too; it's easier to make pages with nice contrasts …

I feel like doubting my work more came after I got better; when I was younger I used to think that almost everything I did was pretty awesome, every idea and every single comic. I do agree that just simply bashing yourself gets you nowhere though. But it seems to be the more aware I am about things …

Reading this makes me kinda miss the times when I had time to draw close to 10 hours a day. I actually do very little random sketching these days, most of my time drawing daily goes straight to working on comic pages. I wish I could get more time to draw again but between a part time job that is get…

I have a tendency to come up with huge amounts of different characters, combining some of them in one story idea and trying stuff out by just sketching character interactions and such and working from the perspective of the characters and their chemistry. Some work, some don't and the ones I've grow…
