Apparently, after implementing the slightly controversial but overall acceptable Fast Pass for on-going series, Webtoon has stepped up their monetization game by implementing Daily Pass on top of it.
Now Webtoon is locking previously free-to-read completed series under Daily Pass, a "limited time" feature where you get to read 1 episode of a completed series per day, while the rest remains locked unless you pay coins. I'm assuming this is their new method of capitalizing on their completed series as they continue to garner more readers over time, but it seems even more controversial than Fast Pass.
What are your thoughts on this new system? Do you think its a great method for artists to be compensated after completing their comic? Or will it be detrimental by driving away binge-readers?
Personally, I think the system is counter-intuitive. They're pretty much forcing readers to shell out a couple hundred dollars for a feature that used to be free, and it's currently not going over well with the readers in Girls of The Wild's comment section. I'd much prefer a donation option for completed series or something along those lines.
