TIP: Use MBTI to write characters

I’m more of an artist than a writer and mbti helps me make my characters’ personalities consistent.

It’s interesting to learn about different dynamics between the types. It feels like I’m learning about my character instead of making stuff up.

I’m still a beginner writer and so I stuck with my own type for the MC (INTP) of my comic because I understand it the most.

I mostly stick with stereotypes for the other types though

I type all my characters. xD Most of them end up being one of the XNFX types. Maybe because I'm INFP and it's easier for me to create such characters?

the myers briggs type indicator which is a kind of personality test. it's not really all that scientific and is mostly for fun but can be used to identify certain generalized personality types like INFP or ESFJ and so on

I love using MBTI for my characters! It’s super fun to do and I feel like it really helps me figure out each character’s decision making process most of all.

If you want a fun character study, try doing an enneagram ‍ it delves into core beliefs which are (often fear-based) motivators. It’s not as fun if a test to take, but it definitely helps with character insight!

Personally for me I'd stay away from MBTI since no personality test can never pin down someone realistically speaking. Like what if your character is a liar? Are we to believe this particular character would do this test at gunpoint? Why is my character even doing a test like this?

Another reason why is because I remember hearing from Church that "God knows you more than you know yourself". From a writer's perspective, there's little stuff that characters do that seems completely out of character and would turn the MBTI tests on its head, but characters aren't exactly AWARE that they're doing it.

I try to develop my characters through songs since songs pack in tons of themes in lyrics that you don't notice until much MUCH later which is awesome. It's like you're looking at your character and saying "I didn't know this about you", keeping you invested in their story. Like I make playlists and try to find songs that sound similar to one another so I can understand my character's rhythm.

I know basics of MBTI- I know what each letter in the type means, I know my type, etc, but I don't use it to create a character. My characters are constructed mostly with their flaws plus some other personality traits sprinkled on top haha cx
However, my friend is really into MBTI. She also ships my two characters, Kestrel and Jerzy, and she told me that for her those characters looks like those two types, and those types are perfect for each other.
I had doubts, as my characters hide a lot of their feelings, especially Kestrel, she's a liar and she also lies to herself a lot, and it'd be hard to see her true self just from what was shown in the story so far. And the description sounded kinda off (maybe because it focused on good traits while I mostly see bad traits in my OCs). So I decided to take the test for them (...and also when I started doing it, my friend asked me to do it for other some characters as well, as she wanted to make sure if she's right).
And turns out, she got every single one of them right : O
I don't know how you MBTI people do it, it's like magic but it somehow works

Soo turns even that even if you don't use MBTI to write your characters, they still have their type which can be recognized by people who are into MBTI
